 Oil Leak!!!

Post Oil Leak!!!
Hi Guys

Right ive got a oil leak and not really sure on the cause?!?!

Theres a lot of oil around the front and lower half of the engine particuly on the left hand side.

Push rod seals seem fine however when i went to change the points found a fair bit of oil in the box.

Im thinking the breather is knacked and pushing oil out from everywhere it can?

Any ideas?

Marc,
have you cleaned everything off, then run the engine for a while without the fan fitted to make it easier to check for leaks from the oil cooler, cylinder head feed pipes and oil pressure switch?
Check for loose bolts at the base of the breather as well.

After that, try a crankcase vacuum check plus an enine compression test, as folk seem too quick to condemn a breather when the real cause of their problem is worn or damaged pistons, rings or bores which are pressurising the crankcase...

Ive cleaned it all off but needing to fit the points now but reluctant to fit new ones if there going to get covered in oil again.

The oil doesnt seem to go as high as the oil filler neck and there is no oil in the fan housing just on the crank case.

Heads are bone dry too so feed pipe seems ok.

:?
The points won't be irreparably damaged if they get some oil on them, will they?

Anyway, why not leave the points box cover off while you run it for 10 minutes or so, the oil vapour won't get a chance to condense in the points box that way.
