On a standars rim. I know 145 and 155 are ok, what about wider?

I must ask why you want to? You can fit ridiculously wide tyres on if you want, but they will hit stuff in the arches and the swing arms too, and wobble all over the place when you corner. For practical roadgoing purposes I think even a 145 is too wide to be pleasant to drive with.

On the van, 145s feel lush, I properly throw her around and it really grips, I love them, but then they're Michelin XZXs so they're properly nice tyres.

I was looking at winter/off road tyres, but wonder if in snow, skinny 125s would be better?

Skinny 125s with decent tread I reckon. Remember taking my car up that hill?

P.S. Don't use the term 'lush'.

This car belongs to "Hildebrandt", and he has driven 165 for 10-15 years:

You know I've got those studs in the garage? I won't be using them because I'm soft and driving a car with a nice heater, lights and windscreen wipers instead of my 2cv so if it snows like last time you're welcome to borrow them. They're shit hot for sparkly wheelspins too when the snow's thin.

195, but its horrific to drive, I'm willing to see if 205 would fit though, cause then I could get some A/Ts instead of M/Ts.

Aren't studs slightly illegal?
I was thinking a set of winter tyres for my old wheels, saving my nice new wheels from salt and dhit
But hey, wheels are replaceable
My 125 michs wherenAMAZING last year, even with lack of tread and interesting cracks
I can't wait to try the 135's in snow,
In comparison from a 125 going to a 135, the 135 zx is an amazing tyre, grips so well, just holds road amazing,

Edit
Russ suggested these tyres, I was going to go for 125's again but he was right!!
Ps I just killed a hodgeheg with my 135's :o

If that bothers you then don't use them.
