Post G'bye shit roof.
Our good friend Skinny Alex from Germany supplied one of his top quality fabric roof. It is just beautiful and fits nicely. Sold many to people down under, high UV. Alex is selling heaps but hardly any in France (too expensive).
This roof will last a hundred years unlike vinyl. Seen them split after one year.

Can highly recommend Alex, see his web site here

Yes they are great roofs.
I got mine in Oz through Viking, expensive but worth it!
He can even do a small rear window. 8-)

Ian (and Andres) - the owner(s) of the car - told me that this roof was around ten years when I drove around with him (them) in Australia in 2008.
The roof was perfect!
I don't se no reason why anyone should buy the cheap edition!

The original roof were ok but once in need of replacement, original roof are not around, which means you have to hope for the best when byuing a vinyl roof. You simply don't know the quailty or lack of it. In most cases the vinyl is cheap shit and won't last long before splitting. We sell many vinyl roof, our supplier is Safar in Rennes. Not a bad roof, however we do tell customers that you don't get long lasting reproduction roof for 175 euros.
Our cars are fitted with roof from Skinny Alex, no worries.

I belive that Alex roof is OK.

Long time ago here in Slovenia we had one way to preserve roof from splitting. Basicly idea was to be more insulated for the winter time. And we glue some 5 or 10 mm insulating material on the bottom of the roof. I found a lot of 30 - 40 years old 2cv roofs in one piece because of that. Why ? This is my guess... Roof is made of rubberized canvas and as we know 2cv is loaded with moisture so canvas is normal wet. And in winter time canvas dont dry and than after some time disintegrates ... start to splitting.

That insulating material that is glued on canvas prevent moisture to penetrate to the canvas. Normally after so many years roof is old and stiff but still in one piece.
