You're welcome to help yourself to anything out of our skip, in exchange I'd like a nice silver over Subaru blue paint job on my ax and if you could also find time to airbrush the signwriting too that'd be sweet, cheers.

in the sklip or on a skip unless it had a custom paint job like " WATSONS SKIP HIRE" it was probably a heritage softtail bobber.......easy mistake  It was a big orange skip, and was definitely inside it. Apparently there were lots of other bits, but we went back and it was all gone.

I think that would be highly dependant on the contents of your skip..

Got a little more done. Finished making the handle and catch mounting areas on the N/S, was much easier having already done the other side, had something to take measurements from.     Fixed the rusty door bottoms, this was the bottom inner of the N/S/F door  Cut out  Cut a section from the side of a scrap rear door and grafted it in  Similar story with the O/S/F door,  Rusty metal ground away  Didn't have any more old doors to chop up so made a new rubber mount area, and clamped it up ( Can never have too many pairs of vice grips)  Welded  Top of the N/S/F door was quite badly rusted so dealt with that    Bootlid hinge was also screwed, so sourced another bootlid which had a sound hinge but was otherwise too far gone, so nabbed the hinge and welded it to the old bootlid. Old hinge  Removed, and area treated with rust converter  New hinge  Also blanked the O/S rear quarterlight Looked like this..  Recess removed  Blanking section cut out and tack welded in  And so on, until it was welded all round  Welds dressed  Etch primed  That's all for now..

How do you avoid the panels distorting with the welds? If I'd done that door handle hole that door would have been buggered.

Low setting on the welder and patience! Do a couple of tacks, then go off and have a cup of tea, check your facebook, pot up a geranium, whatever you're into, whilst it's cooling, then do a few more welds, and carry on like that til it's welded all round. Doing round the rear quarterlight took me an hour.

Good stuff those Lidl clamps are tiny and particularly crappy aint they;) but 3 for £5 its quantity rather than quality. anyone used one of these? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8cruauERmIits just a stainless disk in a grinder.

I welded over a sunroof aperture last week, and it's the most awful wobbly twisted thing I've ever seen. I think probably my inherent lack of patience doesn't help. I likes structural welding personally. You can turn your brain off and just bust into it. I was doing 12-15mm thick ally today. I can cope with stuff like that...
