Post Re: Putting parts in a dishwasher!
ive done pistons after they have been de coked - more just to flush off all the loose residue than to clean off the carbon

dishwasher detergents are pretty caustic and id not want any of it left in oil galleries or the like

it also makes a mess of the coffee maker so if id not trust it to do my fave coffe pot id not really use it for precious bits
by far the best is to spray with brake cleaner and stick it in a lidded box or a big plastic bag and seal before the solvent has flashed off - let it soak for a bit then detergent and hose

and like Spanners if i get caught again its off to see if Mr Bobbits plastic surgeon will work his magick again

Sean

unleaded petrol is nasty cancerous stuff best avoided and expensive

parrafin is better for alloy, brake cleaner is brilliant takes all the oilyness out and just leaves baked on residues as dust or flaky varnish

I would be crucified upside down if I tried this
I assume you wouldn't use detergent?
Don't some dish washers use salt also?

Engine reconditioners have big commercial versions. They normally don't charge much to give stuff a wash. Less than divorce lawyers in fact.

I am one of the paranoid you mention here. Water from the tap is not cleaned 100% due to the fact that 99% goes down the drain, only 1 % throught your body. Bottled water is by law a beverage and cleaned through a reverse osmosis system. Most particles, chemical and metals etc are removed.

Sorry back to topic. Petrol is nasty to work with but nothing beats it when we talk efficiency in quality and time. I use a fan to blow the fumes away, when working. Also sometimes buy cleaned fuel from hardware store.

diffrent standards over here - Bottled spa water from France (not mentioning any brands) does not need to comply and often doesn't come up to the standards of tap water in this country.

the brands id highlighted above come from the same sources as the locals get - my last house had Findlays water on tap!

I know going off topic now but

How does French Bottled water get over the british "standards" when exporting then?
