There are something like 37 theoretical ratio combinations that can be created from the standard Citroen ratios. Or so I'm told by someone I know in Belgium who rebuilds boxes.

theory and reality often never coincide getting the stuff is one reality check. second is that 1st 2nd and 4th are all dictated by the layshaft which in turn dictates the input shaft
so theoretically you can have a dyane lay shaft and a 2cv input .....but it'll lock been there done that trying to assemble a box from a bigger crate containing the internals of numerous dead gearboxes.

but there is a considerable amount of messing about you can do
dyane diffs on 2cv ratios and vice versa gives a long box and a short box and its not the first time a car has finished the 24hrs using one :?

Hi Simon,
there are a few things which are worth doing when you're that far into a gearbox, which will pay dividends in longevity and reliability.

Peening the selector ring to prevent it unwinding, replacing the rear bearing on the main shaft and torquing the rear nuts properly, as well as securing both of them with Loctite.

Some guidance notes here; http://www.flickr.com/photos/30132857@N06/page11/

cheers

Simon

Hmm looks complicated but I guess if I never get stuck in I won't learn,
My box in question is an unknown quantity
