 Re: Salbris 2011
Just got back. Highlight was meeting almost every 2CVer I know, plus the Dyane did 1,700 miles without missing a beat after having spent the last few years in a barn.
The showers and toilets were fine too.
Bad points, for me - the meeting was just a big French National organised by the French for the French (but given that so few French travel to other world meetings, that should not have come as a surprise). We left first thing on Friday without feeling we would be missing anything. Oh, and everyone telling me how good the Czech meeting was by comparison (I had pre-booked but ended up not going).
The journey there and the journey down to the Midi and back afterwards reminds me why I've still got an A-series. Pootling along in an A-series along French backroads with no deadline cannot be beaten.

 Re: Salbris 2011
it was great! Had great fun.. the queue was a bit on the long side, but once we got in, it was just great! Had some fun neighbours.. the Swedish guy with the grey Ami 6. He drove with banana's in the sump.. Engine seized, but ha had a spare one in the back (which didn't run for 20 years)... Also had great fun in the party area.. Learned some nice dutch words to some of you... ami did a great job, no big problems orso. just great. a pic from the data sheet of the last stage to get home:

That guy was amazing. The car was as rotten as a pear. One evening we walked past & he had all the front panel work off & the engine out - the next day he had another engine in minus the cooling shrouds/tinware... The following day the engine was still minus loads of bits & with the panels strewn around the area & the owner was sat behind the steering wheel casually working through a crossword! Brilliant!

 Re: Salbris 2011
I wonder if anybody had the heart to tell him that the legend he was trying to prove was in fact bananas in the gearbox, and not the engine. More time reading history books and less time relaxing with a crossword puzzle required. Although its loonys like that who make 2cving what it is!

Its was quite rotten yes.. Many people were surprised that my car had made it... But with this car a few meters down the road they were even more surprised He started Wednesday-morning at 6h, with dismantling the front of the car.. And always many people gathering round him, and he kept on spannering on the car, with a basic tool kit. The "new" engine had one of its spark plugs stuck in the head, but came loose when my dad borrowed him his tools. The insulator and electrodes were completely missing, on both plugs. They engine looked liked is had been stored in a damp garage or something, it was very oxidized. When he was ready to start the car, it wouldn't work, due to a bad battery... After some starting, the starter motor began to smoke, and also the cables got very hot.. Punky and me were watching all this, and it came to our mind the fuelpump was faulty because there was no smell of pertol, nor a load of fuel under de manifold.. The belgium guy working on the car together with the owner kept on believing it was a ignition/coil problem. Punky and me still saying that there wasn't any fuel getting to the carb, but because we don't have grey hair, and aren't 50 years old, they didn't listen to us.. After a while punky said it directly to the owner and he started to change the pump.. Then it took some time, but eventually the car started.. Also had some fun watching a guy from portugal changing his doorlocks... Took him 1,5h on a pace that was really boring.. I would have done it in less than 5 minutes

 Re: Salbris 2011
I think I have the wrong idea about going to meetings. I only opened the bonnet once - to check the oil level. Anyway, this is one of my favourite photos - about 10km from the meeting near where I was staying.
