WOW ! Interesting stuff here. Fortunatly I don't need to do this yet, my problem is on a car not on the road at the moment. I can't help but think the welding idea is such a neat trick that I will try that. Rhythm Thief - Hope you get back to us and let us know how you get on.....err...did I just read you were wearing your dressing gown and welding helmet ? I guess that will make you easy to spot at meetings

I don't make a habit of wandering around the house in a dressing gown and welding helmet, it's just that I couldn't wait to have a go with it.

Id tend to agree with them! the new replacements use steel pin in a steel bushing and the fit is sloppy from the start- the factory used some sort of sintered material which appears to be some sort of alloy- ally bronze?

The set I bought from Uncle Roy only the other day feature sintered bushes, so it says on a little leaflet in the box. I'm just off to google "sintered" ...

So, when the reamed out arm wears oval again, (which, let's face it, it will) will we be able to get over-sized over-sized bushes? I'd sooner see a weld shrunk arm than go through the process of fitting a set of kingpins in somebodys car only to find they've been reamed out to take over-sized components and everything is even more sloppy than before!

Just drill them out and stick a nut bolt and a couple of washers in sorted!

Interesting - Oilite bushes are sintered bronze bearings impregnated with oil ( there is also Oilite Plus with added PTFE and Super Oilite which is also sintered but iron based for heavier loads). They are available in several hundred different sizes and cost about £2.50 each for the size range that would work with 2CV kingpins. Can anyone run a micrometer over a set of new 2CV bushes and I will then get a part number from Bearing Boys?

I put a rather inexpert weld in the other day and it really didn't look like it would do the job at all. However, after a week or so of walking past it, I thought "well, looking at it won't do anything", so this morning I ground the weld down and fitted the new pin. Tight as you like and no longer turning in the arm. I'm doubly chuffed because I managed to get the top cap grease tight. That's one side all done, now to see what t'other side's like ...
