Re: New kingpin turning in swing arm If you decide to fit standard arms can I buy/swap/steal the turned ones from you please? They were far more preferable than the arms I used on my car. I have the original arms with batteurs on if you want them although they have slightly noisy wheel bearings.

I'm going to try and keep the turned arms, but if I change my mind I'll let you know. I'd be interested in the original arms.

Re: New kingpin turning in swing arm You're welcome to them really, I could do with one more Standard 2cv arm (can't remember which side) so I have a pair, but i guess if you wanted turned arms you're welcome to the pair on my red car, they don't have as much negative as the set you currently have.

Re: New kingpin turning in swing arm Right. With any luck, my welding helmet will arrive today and I can do this when I get up this afternoon. Just a few questions ... can I get enough heat into this with a small (and very old) MIG welder? And how deep and wide should the groove be, roughly? Anything else I should be looking out for?

However is this "kingpin housing shrinking trick" best done with a groove around the housing or a groove cut vertically? I can see where Russ is coming from because that would presumably shrink it at the area of the bushes (where I presume you need it most), but kens pic shows the cut going upwards.
......or does it not matter

Ken's vertical weld looks easier to accomplish.

Re: New kingpin turning in swing arm I think it's one of those things that works and gets the job done. But I'm not keen on it personally - a bit too bush mechanic. Chances are it will shrink to an oval shape and cause more problems. Better to drill a 12mm hole in the side of the eye and weld the kingping in - then grease it as often as possible.
I think that the oversize pin is a better solution. Even better would be a Ford style kingpin system using a cotter pin in the eye.
