Spookeend it wasn't a criticisim of your system just that for us big footed Right Hookers there isnt much space for a big speaker down there

What would folk recommend for that really loud deep sound?
got the front speakers in and they are OK up to a point.everything works off the Ipod so V is happy.

sub woofers do they need an extra amp and power the sony system we have has all sorts of extra do-dahs on the back for connecting stuff

And a reasonable sub, which will need to go in a box, something like this:

I'm pretty sure you could make your own box for it, 19mm MDF or ply is fine, just make sure it's sealed well.

which will also need an extra set of RCA cables, and more speaker wires.

Your front speaker channels power your speakers, and your two rear channels are bridged to power the sub. You can buy a 3.5mm Headphone jack to RCA cable which means you can bin the head unit and just use an ipod.

You can make a very simple bass box by using the volume of the spare wheel space - just cut a piece of decent ply to cover the rear boot area and then pop a nice big sub in the middle - sorted!

Superchip Ray had some speaker boxes that fitted in the front footwells like Sean's pic, and he had said he was willing to make some more. I pm'ed him about them and he was going to make some sometime if I wanted first refusal, I haven't heard anything since but apparently they fitted 4" speakers, and to be honest, I thought that was a little on the small side. I've tried holding a 6" speaker in the space and it looks too close to the accelerator. The other way would be to mount them in the doors with 1/2" thick door cards, and a load of 'Dynamat'.

I'd like a three piece component set-up with crossovers in the front, but that's about stage 4 of the master plan. So far I've only managed stage 1, a solid parcel shelf, and that was 2 years ago.

I am currently translating my piece on audio testing i did into English.
It concerns mainly the placing of speakers in to extreme small sealed boxes and how they handle.

I did some testing, and they perform well on radio alone, but change the speaker to a little more beefy one, fit a little amplifier and there ya go, loud and clear without having to spend all the cash, lol

Just got a radio and aerial for my 2cv - now need some speakers...

Does anyone have any recommendations on some not too expensive speakers that will fit in the door? (Meaning can't be too deep)

The trouble with fitting them in the doors is that the door panels aren't really thick enough. I'd reccomend searching eBay for 'speaker pods', as you can get universal fitting ones that fit most popular sizes of speaker. These will then fit the doors on, and will only leave a couple of screw holes should you wish to remove them, no need to cut a hole. If you're not using an amp, solely a head unit (the bit on the dash) then look for a set of two way speakers with a relatively low RMS value. They'll work best with your head unit. I'd avoid dual cone speakers as they'll never sound very good in a car like a 2cv as at speed you'll need to turn them up loud and they can't cope with them. My personal preference is towards JBL speakers, although I've had good results from kenwoods too. I'd go for something 13cm or larger.

was sort of planning to do what you said - was going to fit them into the door then buy/make a large washer type thing (the speaker pods) which would fit in a hole in the door so the speakers wouldn't stick out too much and rest on the door with a foam pad stuck between door and speaker.
