there is shit loads of waist in the country
but if you look at the country as a business, there is bout to be a lot of waist...
nothing is 100% efficiant
breaks on cars, the heat caused by the friction is a waste, and so is the noise if it makes a noise
now im not suggesting the waist in the public sector is a good thing
however, there is always going to be some waiste
id rather see pointless jobs in the public sector, than more un employed sponging of the doll down the local pub,
round where i am, in chichester is a weatherspoons,
its always full of un employed, talking crap all day long, drinking the country's money
now thats proper waste
rather they played with paper for no reason than drank the money,.,,

Is this a bad time to point out that even as a 'useless public sector' worker myself where my local government eployers have a pay freeze and recruitment freeze and are facing a 15% budget cut I somehow managed to find money to buy 14 iPads?

You might want to reflect much harder before making a statement like that. I certainly hope you don't fall ill in the near future or have an accident.

In defence of Tim's statement, he is specifically criticising useless public sector workers. The ones who's job descriptions seem to mostly consist of making life difficult for the rest of us(dare I refer to them as parasites? )

I'm sure he has no beef with the thousands of useful public sector workers, who are of course vital to society.

I actually saved money. I was tendering for touch screen interactives for our new Museum and the best I got was £7k for 2 machines.

I put together a case to purchase iPads instead. Much cheaper!

And I don't get any of them :( You lucky man dave! Cheers for the pm by the way :)

my mum is a puiblic sector worker and has been since leaving medical school many moons ago
my mum is probably one of the few public sector workers who is secure in her job, mainly because of the nature of what she does
and theyd be mad to make her re dundent, shes always dashing out at quarter past stupid o clock to see a patient whos taken a turn for the worse (out of her own good will)

Post Re: The SORN nightmare...
I know this thread seems to be going a little off target but for my 3 pen'th worth - I find it mildly annoying - no sorry, make that extremely f***ing annoying to think that the public servants, who let us not forget, we, as tax payers, pay for, are going on strike for their retained and index linked pension rites and a pay freeze, when thousands of private sector workers, through no fault of theirs, lost their jobs at the beginning of the recession, have no pension rites, no pay. etc., etc. If the public sector workers believe, as their union leaders glibly state, that the unemployed and the private sector are going to fully support these strikes well its about time they all woke up and smelt the coffee.

Its time these people realised that the previous government pumped billions into the public sector job market, to reduce unemployment figures and bolster their vote base, and now when the shit hits the fan financially, these made up jobs are hanging by a thread.

Rant over.....
