Post King Pin !!!
Ok...so each year I fail to get a 2CV ready for the camps...right on the edge of needing an MOT...so working on the Bamboo

.... but look at this...I need to sort out a few things and ordered a new set of King Pins.....

In fitting them this happened...

What kind of crap am I being sold here ?

I appreciate is a rubbish pic as my camera isnt working properly. But last year had an advisory on the king pins and brought a new set and hoped all would be fine as I have the tools and "drifts" to do the job....done it before.

In replacing them one of the top bushes broke up. Now it wasnt me hitting them with a big hammer...if it was I would take the blame..this was actually Phil S who turned up and tried to do the job in a more sedate way, using a brass drift and going carefully. We were very careful and I dont think this is our fault.

Surely this is just rubbish parts,....it shouldnt break up like this....surely not....

SO BEWARE OF YOUR REPLACEMENT KING PINS....SOME RUBBISH OUT THERE !!

It wouldnt be so bad but the fit on the bushes was crap anyway...we made up a decent set from a combination of all sorts...not really what I wanted to do.

The spare parts we have can be so rubbish...watch out what you buy....

.....or is this normal...

Why sell junk ?

ARRGGHHHHHH

Where did you get it from? Pm me if you'd rather. Perhaps you'd have some luck contacting them?

Will Pm

But just all watch out...we have few people out there who sell stuff..loads of cheap rubbish....loads of expensive rubbish too. Most of the suppliers are very miserable people and grumpy gits too. Give your business to nice people !

Forums like this let us know who is selling crap...forget the bullshit of everything...if it works great.....if it dont work then name and shame....

Anyone need a new king pin ?

Squeezebox,
that bush looks as though it was sintered, rather than machined, which might explain its mode of failure.
Haven't seen any of those for many years, they used to be common about 15 years ago...

I had one last year. Most likely a cheap reprodution part made in Asia.
If you don't want shit products avoid cheap parts. One can't blame the suppliers as they/we relay on our suppliers until they/we discover the level of quality. We see the same story with bearings (gear box, wheel bearings etc) also tires and so on. Today we learned that Valeo stopped production of the steering/ignition lock. The ''new'' replacement is a remake done by MCDA France and poorly made, sad it is. But do we have a choice, no we don't.

Sintered material might well do that and blame the hand that did it, indeed why we don't sell them, if it's a steel bush then I would expect deformation before shattering.

I do hope you've told the supplier of the part about the fault, not much can be done if you don't complain directly.

I liked the original fitment which appeared to be some form of sintered yellowish metal, they lasted for decades unlike the steel on steel replacements.
