Post Oil - Everywhere. Smoke too!
So went for a lovely drive in the van tonight. Had been going about half an hour when the cabin started to fill with smoke. Investigation showed this was caused by oil dripping onto the crossbox and burning off. Smelly, but not a massive problem. It's where the oil's coming from that's the issue.

So. There's oil:

All over the bulkhead.

In the heat exchanger (right hand side)

And coming out the breather

The situation.

This has only developed since we did the tappets, so I was thinking rocker cover gasket, but cant understand why it would be in the heat exchanger if this were the case.

The flicking over the bulkhead looks like it could be caused by oil flicking off the brake drums? Not sure.

There's also oil at the base of the filler tube:

On most 2cvs the breather is connected to the air box is it not? Now this isn't possible on mine so do I need to connect the breather via a tube to something to stop the oil flying around?

I guess I should have listed to that oil drip advisory on the MoT

All thoughts and advice appreciated :)

yup open breather would do that

run a length of garden hose to an old milk carton or the like fixed to the bulkhead as an oil catch tank A'La Racer

the next thing to check is that the oil isnt pissing out an oil feed line to the head tht'd fill up the heat exchanger

then get to the bottom of the timing, advanced timing exacerbates the leaks retarded has the exhaust running too hot

you can divert the breather to a catch tray or to exit below the engine. other than that im no help sorry!

Instant rust preventer.
What is that comedy air filter, should the breather be connected back to the carb via the airfilter somehow .
Sean, do they use oil like that causing you to have to check it often?

Cheers :) Garden hose to a catch tank is a good start and maybe a quick fix. The oil feed pipe bit is worrying - you can't get M4 oil feed pipes!

no not that much - its like blood you need to spill it in alarming quantities for it to be of any danger

we had a split hose going to the catch tank a few years ago and it made a real mess got black flagged by yhr marshal in the pits!

in the last Snet think we used less than 500ml the equivlent of one of those pop bottles during the 24hrs.

There's no air box in existance for an AK350 with an Ami 6 engine  The ami 6 one is just plain wrong and nothing else will fit between the bonnet and the frankly massive carb!

Taking a pipe either down to road level or into a box will be the way forward, Box would be more eco and sociable
