Thanks Neil. I agree about the mags.
I'd be keen to hear from Ken or Dave, mine is a hard tail so i'd like to know how theirs handled and what kind of top speed to expect.

Cheers Neil, i've been lurking here and spotted that. They don't seem as common as the VW trikes but theres a few around.
On the subject of slot mags, mine say wolfrace, made in england. but also say american racing equipment. were they the same company? or did wolfrace make them under licence?
The slot mags and the springer forks were what sold it for me.

Blimey, As far as i know - slot mags were originally brought to these shores in the mid-late 60s - imported & marketed by a bloke named John Woolfe. These were cast by American Racing Equipment & sold here under the name 'Woolfe race'.

http://www.bedford.ac.uk/pdf/Woolfe%20R ... oup_it.pdf

IIRC, a company called GKN bought the rights to market & distribute from John Woolfe & Wolfrace was born from this in 1971.

Perhaps it's a pair from the early days!

I think the dished ones are a fantastic looking wheel - they're so 'of their time'.

Ah evokes memories of lusting after 4" spring hangers for my mk1 escort (and a light shining on the painted live axle)

Post Re: Welcome, Willkommen, Welkom, Bienvenue. Introduce yourse
Been lurking for a week or two, so I thought I'd break my forum duck by letting everyone know how excited I am to be back in the World of 2CV's. For all but around 18 months I had 2CV's for the last 20 years or so... They're a hard habit to break.

Guess it all started back in 85/86 when my best friend at school was lucky enough to be given a brand new 2CV Special by his parents for his 18th Birthday. Brand spanking new C Reg. He let me drive it, and thus set me on the road to 2CV ownership...

Anyhow, fast forward a few years and I bought my first "usable" 2CV, a red Special, MPO177Y. There had been a couple of others in the intervening years, but they had been disposable in the way that cheap cars were in those days- MOT failure had them off to the scrapyard (RED801R springs to mind)- 2CV's were still plentiful - and cheap!

MPO177Y was different- She had a name, "Izzy" and was a relatively tidy one owner car. Soon after I bought her for the princely sum of £250 I went on my first London to Brighton rally (think the theme was the Blues Brothers) and my first International, hosted by the 2CVGB local group "602 Squadron" in Nottingham I think- though I could be wrong. A terrific time was had by all- that I am right about!

In time new floors, sills, chassis and front wings were fitted by Motomec and we travelled all over Europe in Izzy- the Waggel meet, a trip to Amsterdam where a British ex-pat just off the plane from some exotic place asked whether I'd made her myself!!) Paris in '98 with Generation 2CV and all kinds of other adventures. There was the Fyffes charity safari in '95 where we took part in the filming for Blue Peter. We still have our Blue Peter badges of course...

98 was a bit of a turning point though with me and 2CV's. Our first child was born then and my wife wasn't keen to have new offspring carted round in a deuche, and so when the MOT expired the following year, rather than spend money getting Izzy through, an Audi 80 (I have a thing about Audis and Renaults too!) was bought as a family car, while Izzy got parked up in the garage where she was to remain for another year or so.

A couple of years (and a few non Citroens) later and for whatever reason the good lady wife decided that she'd quite like a Dyane, believing them to be safer than a 2CV. We bought "Mimi-drum" a yellow Dyane- I can't remember the Reg, but the Audi stayed. Eventually though the time came to sell Mimi-drum and Izzy to finance the purchase of "Eugene" (F913UGM) in 2001- another red Special in lovely condition with a galvanized chassis. Kept Eugene until 2005 when I tried to break the A-series habit once and for all. I sold Eugene with a ton of spare parts and vowed to run sober "normal" cars from then on- or so I thought...

... Anyhow, form time to time I would see 2CV's on the road and lament that those years were behind us. I'd see "Eugene" about, by which time he'd lost a bit of his lustre, grown spots and transformed into "Angelina Ladybug". At least he / she was still on the road and being enjoyed. The expense of another child and some ill-advised vehicular purchases (PT Cruiser anyone?) meant I couldn't afford a "fun" car. 2 years ago though, I couldn't ignore the itch any more and I bought "Rhubarbe" a Plums and Custard D*lly (E922 JBL) who although Portuguese built and on her original chassis is (was) probably the most solid, rust-free Deuche I've ever had. I drove her until the MOT expired in September 2009 and parked her up on my drive with the expectation I would get around to sorting her at some point. Well that point has come now. I've spent the last few weekends messing about with her, and the last couple of days cleaning and polishing. She looks lovely.

Unfortunately, she's not going anywhere at the moment due to a spot of chassis rot, but that's due to be sorted soon. We'll miss the annual 2cv London to Brighton run, but there'll be plenty more time to get the wind in my hair this summer, I'm sure!

Can't wait...

I have forgotten to introduce my self.
I'm danish, have driven A-models since 1993, and have at the time none drivable Citroëns.

1st 2CV:

Also went to Tuscany and Holland (1997) in it.

AZU:

Went to Belgium in 1998

2nd 2CV (bought and sold twice):

And finally my Méhari:

I miss my Méhari extremely much, but it had to go for a 2CV-project.
But since I sold it, my back trouble has reduced.
