 Electronic Voltage Regulator Wiring Help
Hi need a bit of advice on the wiring diagram printed on the top of an
aftermarket relacement voltage regulator.
My car has had the three pin regulator loom connector dismantled, so I have
three loose wires with spade connectors on it,so the connection to the
regulator is not foolproof!
I have itentified what the three wires are i.e. 12v.pos,earth,and exciter to the
alternator.
Looking at the TOP of the box the markings are.... / D+ D- DF\ reading left to right,so....... if I want to wire it up useing my
3 seperate wires do I look down from the top and connect to the pins under
or do I turn it over and use the markings on the top while looking at the bottom
The reason I ask is,I have connected by looking from above and this blows
the fuse with the exciter circuit in it,i`m pretty sure it`s fried the regulator!
Sorry to ramble on so much!
I have got a loom with the plug intact but its miles away!!!
So can anybody tell me the wiring positions when looking from below with the middle horizontal pin at the top
Thanks Andy

Re: Electronic Voltage Regulator Wiring Help
Andy, the diagram of the connecting pins should be read exactly as it is appears, not as some sort of 'X ray' view... Sorry, can't manage a diagram with the (horizontal) earth pin at the top, but is this any good? Exc. I _ I +ve ...... -ve ken

Re: Electronic Voltage Regulator Wiring Help
Thanks for that,I am amazed that you could understand my ramblings! So that means I have had the exciter and 12v pos mixed up Next question is will the alternator be ok? I am resigmed to having fried the regulator. Thamks Andy

Re: Electronic Voltage Regulator Wiring Help
Andy, that reg may be ok as long as you had the earth lead correctly placed on the horizontal middle lug
all you can do is test it, alternator will be fine

Re: Electronic Voltage Regulator Wiring Help
I`ve reconnected the regulator the correct way,and run the engine. Checked with a meter and the alternator is working...... but no regulating is taking place as the voltage just keeps rising with the revs up to about 17 volts dropping down to about 13 volts on tickover, so looks like the regulator is no more ah well. Thanks to everyone for your help and advice, god I love forums Andy

Re: Electronic Voltage Regulator Wiring Help
Thanks for the offer Sean, how much do you want to put a couple in the post? The car came without a regulator, then I found a spares car for £100 but guess what about the only part missing off that was the regulator Andy
