so i recently bought a dyane engine and 2cv box,

i was advised that a heavy flywheel wouldnt fit a standard 2cv box, so i bought a standard flywheel and took the heavy flywheel off it and didnt buy the heavy flywheel (such an idiot should of bought both, but hey ho)

so i hear heavy flywheel is the way to go?

how do i make my 2cv box accept a heavy flywheel? do i have some words with it? tell it, it will fit?



if i can modify it to fit a heavy flywheel, i will get a heavy flywheel and once ive got this dyane engine going will probably keep this lump and box aside for a rainy day but who knows,

would love to know how i can get a heavy flywheel to fit..

standard disc break 2cv gear box 'btw

its all about the splines on the box-eraly boxes had a short spline input shaft to accept a trafficlutch and they mate to heavy flywheel and spring clutch

newer light flywheel cars have a diaphragm clutch and long splines on the input shaft

youve done the usual yongster thing of getting torn into it without asking .....you could have saved the flywheel bolts as the heavy flywheel engine will just plug into either gearbox.

light flywheel onto a short splined box is less than ideal.

well it was sorta' a spur of the moment thing, in heinshite i should of asked, but the lack of time and ability to log into i2f and await a reply didnt help, but anyway whats done is done, im sure i can pick up another heavy flywheel...


the box doesnt have a clutch on btw forgot to mention, so i really am up for getting this bastard flywheel to fit, would love to get traffic clutch to fit but i hear it doesnt fit anything after the M4 engine...?

Jons Ami has a trafficlutch and that's an M28, and I'm not sure, but isn't Matt Dampers car M28 too? I don't think it's an M4, although it might be a 435? Dunno why I mentioned it, I haven't got a clue what I'm on about.

Matt Dampers is a 602 with dyane pistons in, im sure its an M4, but id love a traffic clutch more than anything (im such a sad 18 year old, there are strip clubs etc and all i think about is a traffic clutch) but anyway yes would love a traffic clutch, heavy flywheel, with my dyane engine and 2cv box im going to be pissing around with... so id love to hear how i can make what ive got work with what i want (cant believe i just said that, what a dick)

even if it means changing things in gear box, etc etc,

this engine and box are out the car so theres no mad rush

James your heavy flywheel will fit any modern gearbox

ideally you need new flywheel bolts as they are stretched during fitting

trafficlutch is a bit of a pain by all accounts- you need a special carb with it too....but lets not go there

Why do you want a traffic clutch?

To summarise. Long spline gearbox can take either type of flywheel.

Short spline must have heavy flywheel.

Light flywheel must have diaphragm clutch.

Heavy flywheel must have spring clutch.

I've often wondered what are the respective combined weights of each set up. The spring clutch must be lighter than the diaphragm.

Matt Damper's 2cv4 is running a 602 M28 but with old gearbox so it still has a trafficlutch.

This is interesting James as I'll need to get my head round this for the van's hybrid engine.
