However, I'll take stock before I get busy on any other interior items, I think, for fear of getting carried away! Really ought to concentrate on painting those doors, rear wings and bumpers and sorting out the rusty seam where the boot meets the rear light panel. How many rattle cans will I need to do the doors, wings and bumpers? Oh, and what colour should I do the bumpers? (Don't want to do grey, and fancy a change from black.) Advice please!

I wouldn't even contemplate doing that. At six quid a can or more it would be cheaper to buy an old gun off ebay and a litre of paint. Even one of those electric fence-painter type guns would do it at a push. Bumpers? Why not paint a red coloured strip where the black tape normally is? Much more subtle than painting the whole bumper in solid colour. Then nick Sean's idea of a thin matching red stripe on the outer edge of the wheels to tie it all in. Less is more.

Happy days. Car passed MOT with just a couple of advisories! Insurance up from £100 last year to £140 (FJ) this year.

 Re: Snowy the Snail
I had the same increase from FJ back in May, they still worked out a wee bit cheaper than Lancaster. I always enjoy that fresh MOT felling, then start worrying about next year's about three months later

 Re: Snowy the Snail
Two new tyres and a service done this weekend. Always forget how much better the car feels after an oil change and new sparkplugs.
Decided to change the gearbox oil too (18 months since last change). Old oil looked surprisingly clear. How often do other 2CVers change the gearbox oil?
Also got some new surrounds for my door mirrors from ECAS, to replace what's left of the totally perished and brittle originals. Tried fitting them... but have given up for now, in frustration. Any tips?

 Re: Snowy the Snail
I struggled for about an hour to fit the new bead in my mirror. Just couldn't get the glass in. Then I found this on youtube and it works - took all of 3 minutes to fit. Why didn't I think of it first? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzwagF04UQc

 Re: Snowy the Snail
Aah yes! Thanks for that!
I had wondered whether the old hairspray and fire trick (as used on tyres) might be worth a go, but I think that was just my frustration getting the better of me.
