Re: The O/T thread! The wife asks me why I won't wear a wedding ring? She takes it that I'm still trying to look single when I'm out and about but I never have worn one. Anyone in a non-office type job shouldn't either. I had a close call once and it sure cured me of wearing rings at work. This fella wasn't as quick. Maybe I should show her this? Re: The O/T thread! You don't. But if you work with metal or machinery it happens in the blink of an eye. Anyway, there's a pill you can take these days that makes it all better. Been tryin' 'em myself.

Years ago I worked with a guy whose wedding ring took off his finger. He was working on an ex army Bedford RL petrol engined 4x4 truck. He was under it, reached up and caugt his wedding ring across the two starter motor terminals. The ring welded itself to the terminals, got hot enough to take his finger off, the truck, which had been left in gear, started and drove straight into the back wall of the workshop. Amazingly, apart from losing his finger he was otherwise unhurt.

Re: The O/T thread! Yep. It's easy. I was once jumping off the back of a truck but my signet ring caught on a metal spur, so I jumped off but my finger decided to stay where it was. I got away lucky that time as it didn't come apart like the guy shown there. When I had another close do sometime later that was it - No more rings!
