I asked the same thing a while back on the 2CVGB forum. The conclusion was that the font was unique to Citroen but most likely adapted from "42nd Street", with slimmed down versions of the thick lines and a horizontal inversion of the letter Y simply for aesthetic balance on the word "D*lly".
