Post More Insurance Quesions...
Ok, sorry to start another thread about possibly the most boring thing on earth, but I've got a few questions... Firstly, tomorrow I'm gonna try and get it insured properly, with me as a named driver... Can any of young people on here, (jameswallace maybe?) give me some advice on how to properly bring it down... When I say properly bring it down, I'm not expecting it to be cheap but sub 1.5k prices? I'm thinking probably footman james/peter james probably, but they're closed sat/sun and all the other places I've rung are horrifically stupid prices... Might as well buy a 500squid 90s merc and insure that for some of the prices I've been getting
Secondly, Can you have two completely separate insurance policies on one car? My guess is no?
Finally, my dad being the miserable bastard that he is is obsessed that since I've put the splitter thing on, I've gotta tell the insurance about it, and that will make it go up. I can't exactly disagree with him but what have others informed the insurance about it or not?> Surely it's just the same principle of putting an adventure bumper on?
Sorry for being boring.... Gonna explode if I'm not driving soon,
J

In all honesty, having the splitter undeclared is unlikely to give any problems at all, it's not like you're hiding a 1299 in there and not telling anybody. HOWEVER, as much as it's not a performance modification there's a teeny weeny microscopic chance that they'll refuse to pay out as and when you crash it. It's a tiny chance, and I severely doubt it'll ever happen, but there you go. If it's of any help, I told them I had an aftermarket plastic replacement bumper and they couldn't have cared less about it. Since then I never bothered. I doubt most people with Kit Aventure bumpers declare them, and they're more expensive than the originals, whereas a splitter is about a third of the cost of a bumper...

When a drunk driver drove into the back of Mrs Spanners some years ago, the piss heads insurance threw a right wobbly on the grounds that it had non-original seats in it.

It was only the fact that we'd declared them to our insurance company that meant she got paid out.

I know where you're coming from Russ but, I would have to go with Daddy Kelly and say declare it or refit a bumper-insurance companies are always on the look out for reasons not to pay out, escpecially for yoof...............

Sound advice from spanners... your insurance is good when it pays out in the event of a claim otherwise you are wasting your premiums.

Where do you draw the line with declaring things that are not exactly as Citroën intended?

Not sure where you draw the line. If you read the small print you should tell them about every change that is made that is non standard.

As Spanners said, insurance companies will try everything not to pay a claim. You can bet your life they will scrutinise a claim from a newly qualified young driver whilst old farts with maximum no claims may get overlooked.

Try Lancaster Insurance,or Tesco.
James, why not just take some pics and send to your chosen Insurance company and see what they say.Probably nothing, but the last thing you want is if,God forbid, you did have an accident, the insurance companies will find any way out of not paying out,as the boys allready have said, and if a third party is involved, you could be in the poo.
Do it right from the start.

That's kind of my point. I removed the black plastic spacers behind the rear lights, afitted a van tailpipe and welded a small box into the bulkhead. Is it really worth bumping my premium up for things like that?

Otoh, with a decent insurer like fj or pj they only penalized me on performance increases.

Its a dilemma Russ to which there is probably no answer until it happens.

By the same token, I declared my boot-box and adventure bars as they're expensive things!

James, Footman James and Peter James offer identical policies. Theyre both underwritten by a company called Equity Redstar (who are awful).

However you have no choice until your 25 on your underwriter.

Go with PJ over FJ as PJ are cheaper!

Give them your 2cvgb membership number.
Ask if limited milage will keep the premium down (6k will do you)

Also try Adrian Flux, but their policies dont include recovery. Its an extra £50, and again ask for limited milage.

Then sort out agreed value.
