that's great, made me laugh, but can you keep it up for the whole way?

Well the fact is I am now 46, so taking on something that needs such energy might be difficult for me, but I hope the hard work I intend to put in will come off at the end.

So I do hope I can keep it up and finish her off, but it looks like James....a young strapping lad....is going to come over tommorow and apparantly he has something in his toolbox that he wants to use.

I guess he and I will take an end each, front and back, maybe swap over if we feel it works better that way and she will soon be on her side. Then its time to assess her bottom and see how much I need to do with my mask on.

Post Re: D*lly Folly
FANTASTIC day today, sorry the invitation to pop around was a bit late....the invitation is open anytime...anyone passing by just call around...please do..open house anytime..I mean that.... but still great to catch up with Eastbourne2CV again and meet Hardy and his friend (who arriving in two separate 2CVs and James made the street look cool and got some comments from the neighbours !). Interesting talking to Hardy and friend (sorry Hardys friend, didn’t remember your name) and realising how many cars you own between you and of all the other local ones that seem to be tucked away in places. Keep in touch....and sorry we were so busy.

However….a big .......if not huge thank you to James Wallace....SUPERSTAR !!

It was totally amazing for a young lad to drive a three hour round trip to come and meet a total stranger (we had never ever met before) and work so hard all day. Yes the project leapt forward today, but not because of my huffing and groaning. James was here on the dot of nine, got straight to work and didn’t stop for breaks. He hardly ate a thing at dinner, straight back out again afterwards and was a real joy to work with and real great company all day. Above all the guy just gets on with the job. I do not believe he has never taken and engine and box out before or done a re-chassis because he would have done it a dam sight quicker if I hadn’t held him back !

Public thank you to James, you did some fantastic work, not just in time, effort and hard graft, but the systematic way you work and the way you just grasped the whole picture and were right on the job. If/when you come to do your own car, its not going to cause you any hassle at all.....but I will be happy to help...but you dont need it...THANK YOU !!

So we got the engine and box out, real quick. Body shell removed and that is now on floor in garage and we (well mainly James as I stood around feeling old!) built up all the running gear on the new chassis. To be honest we could have gone further, in fact had the shell been OK I suspect it could have been put back together today.

However the shell isn’t OK at the moment although not too bad though, in fact some of it is very good. This is next stage to sort.

Made two decisions also today.

CHASSIS :-

Its now got the new galvi chassis and not its original one. I hear both arguments and simply a decision had to be made. Firstly work was going well and by using the new chassis, it meant the running gear could all be put on today. Secondly the original chassis is actually quite good, but will need to have some work on it and at the moment I want to look inside and repair this as a separate project. Thirdly, I want a Citroen chassis on the Jade one, and I checked it out a few days ago…..its current chassis is totally gone. Currently held up by the steering column and a pile of bricks beneath it. I know I could buy a Citroen one, but I then would have the galvi one that was kicking around over at the end of my projects. Fourthly….and with respect to MrsSqueeze……this car is for her, and I am not sure she will appreciate any possible difference in handling of a replacement or the original !!!

So chassis is the new galvi one…but thanks for those who gave me stuff to think about. It needed to be decided and this will be a re-built car on a new Galvi chassis. Its a case of making a choice of time, whats avaiable for this and other projects, money and ultimatly the functuion and purpose of the car. With the Jade, I will do something different. Faced with buying an "aftermarket" galvi chassis, I would look at other options....faced with James wanting to get as far as we can today and a brand new galvi chassis in the back garden....I blame him

...no not at all...just got things going and ..."all things considered"!

COLOUR :-

How could I possibly not keep it Red and White when James parked his behind it all day?...
Seriously I like the other suggestions for colours and they are very much in my mind for one of the other projects, but I have to admit its going to stay red and white. Not my choice, but frankly not really my car either. Mrs Squeeze likes it being Red and White, its how it was and I think that if I go along with it then I can get away with something more interesting on the others. I might just subtly loose the D*lly stickers……in fact I might just take them off with the angle grinder!!!

There we go for now. Progress and good progress, going to get in the bath chuffed with a great day on the D*lly Folly.

Pic is of James dealing with the one and only totally seized bolt in the whole days work …..yes just one!!

What a lovely account of what sounds like a VERY enjoyable and productive day.

What do you need to do to the body to get it ship-shape?

Sounds like a good time was had! Someone kick James' backside and tell him to wear goggles when angle grinding!

Getting bits of metal picked out of your eye with a needle is a taste one shouldn't acquire....

I must say though, the last bit of metal I had picked out of my eye was particularly stubborn and required a doctor; she was exceptionally good looking. At least so it appeared with one eye fully functional.....
