Best for _what_?

I've not had an AZU yet. But we've had/have got the other three.

Hetty the 350 was an oldie - M4, old box, old brakes - so not really comparable to drive to the other two. By far and away the prettiest, though.
The 400's still in bits, and I'm expecting aerodynamics to be... umm... an issue. But the interior height is massively better for camping than the 350, whilst with the peg-in-hole seats, you've still got the length for camping.
The Acad - well, it's a Dyane, innit? With all that that implies - the trade in of cute for practical. The extra space in the cab. The better aerodynamics. The better "comforts". And, because of the extra length, you don't sacrifice camping length for seats that don't have a life of their own.

So its an arguments you are after...... Off to work but will be back at lunch time with my side of said argument.

Noooooooo... Merely suggesting that "best for..." might not be quite black and white.

To my eyes the short 250 is prettiest, I love the way it looks with the short overhang. I also think the low roof vans look better than the high roof.

I've owned a few over the years, from a bathtub (Rico plastic concoction) to a LPG powered turbocharged Acad. The latter was just plain dangerous. I bought it unseen because it was interesting. It dodn't have a proper LPG tank, but whoever had built the thing had lashed in a couple of forklift truck bottles and a hose for filling them. Just because of that the Acad is my least favourite.

I had a 400 but the big ripples somehow don't have the same visual appeal as the small ones, it was a nice van to drive though.

I seem to keep gravitating to the AZU, there is a one owner from new 59 ripple tucked up in the corner of the workshop, it isn't mine it belongs to a friend. We may be rebuilding it soon. Until I loaded it on a trailer it had lived at the same address its whole life. It belonged to a painter and decorator who would hand paint it, inside and out, when it started to look a bit scruffy. Heaven knows how many coats are on it; in places the ripples are 1/2 normal height!

And I still have the '67 which I really ought to put back together but the workshop and my hands are ful of Volvo PV544

A late 1968 AK350 [series B] with m28 engine and proper brakes would be the one to have. Has all the good looks, decent load bay, reasonably quick and easy to get parts for. Shame I am too tall to drive one. Will have to stick with my Acadiane.

A late AK350 is my 'perfect' van too, but my AZU came along and that is my second choice so all is well. Third is acad, and in fourth place, AKS400. To me they are the least visually pleasing.

I can't find any at the moment. The concept was great, it had a small turbo on a heavily modified manifold, a throttle and no carburettor at all. There was an electric heater for the LPG to get the thing started from cold. The only problem was that whoever built it had a complete disregard for the rules governing LPG installations......

Outwardly it looked like any other white Acad, it quickly got nicknamed the A bomb!

I agree with that. However, I've always preferred the looks and character of the AKS400. I'm not as keen on the looks of Acads, even though they are proportionally neat, but they are so damn good at being practical and useable workhorses. If I could, I'd have a 400 for mooching about locally and an Acad for high speed long haul journeys.
