Indeed; you can tell the restoration is nearly finished as the hub caps are on. Those final touches make the difference!

What is the story behind this?

See, the van is already on feet, some work left, though.

It's looking a lot better. The repainted wheels make all the difference.

I purchased this 1961 AZU some 25 years ago in a sad state already, but the bodyshell was still in form. It was stored in a hay barn some 100 km away from my home and forgotten. One day someone needed an AZU bodyshell or at least the roof and we went to see the car

The farmers had buried the van under hay cubes and other material and this was the result. Anyhow, the degree of rustiness was and is in a desperate level. Let´s see what will be done in the future. A big challenge... nearly nothing is usable.

The 2CV van was first introduced in March 1951 so it´s time to celebrate the 60th birthday of this beautiful creature.

Let's raise a glass or perhaps a whole fourgonnette if available....

...And here's the oldest? known surviving AU - built in April '51!

Quote:
Chassis number 300180, the oldest known 2CV AU in the world, 180th out of the production batch. Production started in March 1951, one detail that indicates the car should be made in April.

...and I saw the oldest known 2cv van in the UK only yesterday (built in March '53). Currently awaiting restoration in a garage in deepest Suffolk.

Let's just say that I don't think Will's sighting was _totally_ random...

Last summer I enjoyed an unique situation, had "all four" A-model vans in my posession; AZU, AK350, aks400 and Acadiane. Now the aks400 is gone, maybe need to get another one asap.
