aha no worries!

But which colour the bottoms of the doors don't match the top! I've taken the A panels off so I'll probably get the paint matched to those, but the new paints going at the back... what if it's a different colour :?

Anyway, got the indicators working :)

The canister wires were the wrong way around

<head hurts>
They've not been apart since they worked. Honest.

There's so much that doesn't make sense! Unless I'd put them on the wrong way around when I had them off last week and there was something else not making them work before... now I sound like James Wallace!

The main thing is they're working :D

And, yes, the ears are utterly useless.

For safety, I'm gonna install some repeaters at the back. I'll leave the ears in place so I may need a higher capacity canister, one that can handle LEDs preferably.

I think the original can will probably be fine with a couple of LEDs, Sam. They use a tiny amount of power, probably (I'm guessing wildly now!) less than the nasty repeaters on the back of late 2CV wings.

This weekend I have mainly been rust sorting:

Off side B pillar before:
Image

Attacked it with a wire brush and my Dremel to reveal holes :(
Image

Took it back to bare metal
Image

And did the base of the A pillar as well to reveal more holes :(

Image

Got some Kurust on them
Image

Then Etch primer (U-Pol Acid 8 - great stuff!)
Image

Then zinc primer
Image

After that had dried over night, this morning I filled the holes, let it go off and finished with another coat of zinc primer.

Job done :)

I also sorted similar problems on the near side.

After:

:D

I also sorted the back panel out:

and

You can see in that picture we trial fitted the rear panels too :D

Next came the front bulkhead. "Rust staining from where inner dash shelf renewed" hmmm
Image

Took a wire brush to it
Image
Kursuted it
Image
An hour or so later

And top coat of zinc spray, but didnt take a photograph  More on the bulkhead next week. Wait and see ;)

So what about that "rust staining"? Well when a wise man says leave it alone do as they say - take note James Wallace if you go looking for problems on a 2cv you'll find them!!!

Under the parcel shelf trim lay this:
Right of dash

Left of dash

So out with the wire brush:

Yes those are holes :(

And after much scrubbing and sanding some more kurust

This will be followed later this week by more zinc primer. I've thrown the soundproofing away, but kept the vinyl to use as a template. I'll buy some nice black or grey carpet and line the parcel shelf and dash area. It just beats me how it got so bad, I've never seen such a rusty parcel shelf apart from on cars that have been left in gardens!

I also attacked the interior of the roof with my wire brush, sand paper, kurust and etch/zinc primer:

It's not a very good pic, the darker areas are where there's zinc primer on the etch primer. I'm going to get some metal paint this week and will give it a nice (probably grey) over coat.

Goodness - It's only when you look at the pictures that you realise how much you can achieve in 3 days!

Oh, I also changed the brake fluid this morning and bled the system through.

sam,
only just noticed this.

If you keep the existing set of sockets & bulbs and use leds in the 'new' repeaters, the increase in current from the leds is so small that the existing flasher unit will be fine.

Fwiw, when folk try to use leds all round with the 'hot wire' type of flasher unit, it's necessary to add some resistors in parallel with the leds, as their current consumption isn't sufficient for the flasher unit to operate...
