 Re: Budget class
i dont think people should be so negative towards the new class. Its a good way to get new people on the circuits. I see it as if people cant stretch to a full spec dogs nuts racer but want to have a go they can put abit of money into their road car, use it for racing but stil get to work each day in it. After all, no modification is permanenet so if the cant get on with racing they stil have their car for the road. A friend of mine said you can drive a 2cv flat out on the road... Correct but the competition and atmosphere isnt there!

I don't think anyone is being negative, for the club the more cars racing the better - the club grows stronger, the racing gets better which is what we all want

 Re: Budget class
I don't think it will make racing cheaper unless people are literally going to take a ropey road car and spend the bare minimum getting it legal. I'd still like to see cars built properly with attention to detail like the classic cars in Belgium. Whilst not making it cheaper, using a totally stock car would make excellent racing, as not changing anything leaves it down to skill, not money. I'm more curious to see how it goes than anything.

 Re: Budget class
Me too Russ, as I said in the hands of someone like Matt Hollis - I think it will make interesting racing between the two classes - I also would like to see well prepped cars out, as you know we put a lot of time and effort on our car

 Re: Budget class
The Economy class allows a car to get on the grid without having to split the crankcase and put in a race cam, without having to buy a weber carb, or any trick shocks. The cars shouldn't be too much slower, just restrictive exhaust, standard flywheel and 8.5:1 pistons setting the cars apart.
The safety features of racing are the same costs pretty much whether you plan to buy them for an escort or mini or 2CV.
Just building a car from scratch with the kids at the school (thanks to Russ for the shell), should be around £700 all in, admittedly with 2nd hand cage.
Got 2nd hand race seat for £50, citroen chassis for £100, plumbed in fire extinguisher system new £100, 4 tyres new £120, Belts new £80, cut off switch £30. Then plus your cage.
Turned arms (approx £200) and stiffened springs (£200) are recommended (try Tower Citroen in retford for these) but you can go racing without.
Just converted my racer to economy spec for Oulton Park on March 26th so we'll see how it goes.
Nothing stopping you driving car to track, racing and driving home. Just needs a bit of imagination!
