Just out of interest, what became of that car? Do you know the new owners plans? Gary Dicks bought it and his stated intention is to restore it properly with the correct engine, drum brakes and period chassis.

Re: Belgian built 1969 AK350 'Hetty' Cheers 250, the indicator was undamaged and I rekon half an hour with a rubber mallet and a sandbag will see the wing good. As Adrian said, the wings aren't great, but I can make them good.

by 'preloading' the gear change lever towards the 4th gear position, instead of moving it to the neutral position and then twisting it to the right, the rate at which the spring is worn is increased.
Or at least that's what I think must happen, as some springs can be worn almost halfway through, whereas others are almost 'as new'.

ken a habit i need to get out of, ive always love "pre loading" the gear, i thought it was designed to do that, and thought it was a genius piece of engineering, oh well!

Re: Belgian built 1969 AK350 'Hetty' I wouldn't worry about it. Most springs are less worn on the 4th gear side as the 1st and reverse is used much more. So James keep doing what you are doing, it won't make any difference. The Spring is not used between 2nd and 3rd since the shift is not sideways. In 1st and reverse the lever always comes from neutral. Attachment:
