I think it's a good club as these things go, but as you may have found Russ a diverse number of people connected by a slender thread does not make a friendly cohesive group, although they will insist that they are. Besides, I hate 'scenes'. Spanners tale of a woman calling him a Cnt for turning up in a non A series vehicle illustrates my point. What sort of folks deride a bloke for turning up to a club meeting? Or swap a good headlamp lens and coil for a bad one at that meeting. (it happened). Fck clubs, or more accurately fck that particular type of people that join them.

Car clubs are a thing of the past, just like religion etc. The internet is the ‘’new’’ way of ‘’net working’’ Just look at this forum how successful it is in connecting people across the globe. Local clubs can’t do this and will struggle to survive if they don’t think in new ways. Who want a club magazine when the net can provide the same more or less instantly? Clubs are only good for dealing with the authorities and legal matters that the net naturally can’t. They also serve as small communities with old fashion structures of VIP etc, sort of a lifestyle for many. I love the net, it has taken me around the world a few times meeting people that I would never have met otherwise

However you make real friends by meeting people. Bit like online dating sites.... they are really just for sad people who can't make friends the real way.

How many friends do you want? I find that the more varied interests you have the more friends you generate anyway. Looking for lifelong friendship via one particular car club is a bit odd isn't it? Membership of that club then ends up like Dumbo's feather. People grasp onto it thinking they can't fly otherwise, it's only by trying different stuff that you realise that you actually can. Great people, genuine people, and arses all exist in every walk of life don't they? I'd sooner meet and judge them on an individual basis than take it as read that they're ok just because they joined the same car club as me. Cynical old bastard signing out.

Very true, plus when the snow comes and the grid goes down at least you can read the club mag by candle light, or use it to keep your spirits up whilst waiting for the emergency services lol.
