 Re: Raid route
Route suggestion
Meeting point Milano in north Italy. 2 day drive to Sicily (Palermo) Boat crossing to Tunis, Tunisia 9-10 hours. Unknown time to deal with border control and passing?
Hello Africa. Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco. Exit Tanger to Spain.
Southern Spain up through the middle to Madrid, continue San Sebastian near the French border. Arrived in Salbris for the world meeting. Date to be confirmed but it could be the 30th July 2011. About 1750 km maybe 2 or 3 days for this trip.
To and from the African continent is at least minimum 6 days maybe more. That gives us 3 weeks in Africa. All this is only rough ideas. Departing your home well prepared around last week in June, latest 1st July.
Can someone please suggest the route in Africa and also which border crossing to use.
Cheers Viking

 Re: Raid route
I think that travelling arround Morroco Algeria and Tunis is what we can do for 4 weeks. Remeber that ist is always posibel to find small tracks or evn go off piste for finding adventure. If we are setting up for too many kilometeres we will be stressing ourselves and we might even miss the good parts of the journey by going the main road. Going to Tamanrasset could be an idea there are two tracks/ roads down there, so you wouldn't have to go the same way tvice. West Coast Morroco down to Wester Shara (just the Northern part) and then back throug the east southern part of Moroco and entering/ crossing Algiria and up till Tunesia. That would be an beutyfull trip with possibility of lots of dirt tracks.

 Re: Raid route
Sounds good Ulrik, any idea of total km for that trip? Any particular reason for the anti clock wise trip?

 Re: Raid route
Got 2 threads going at same time
agree Oued Draa Sothern atlass routes then up over the high passes, fleshpots of Marrakech Plenty of scope to spend a few weeks off road, but morrocco is very rocky and it can be quite exhausting
it is not as committing as south Algeria and so there would be more likleyhood of more participants

We need to make sure that there's some slack built into the schedule, too, in case of problems - mechanical, political/legal, medical, whatever.

Cheers Viking Just what I thought and tried to describe earlier, even though i planed the other way round. It will take a long time to pass the borders that's just a part off it. We could drivea couple of hundred kilometers down into Sahara and enter Morroco at Beni Ounif, then go further down south-west Morroco until we hit the Atlantic, do at little sand driving maybe to Tan Tan and then back north to Marrakech then follow the Westcoast back to Ceuta or tanger where we could take the ferry to Spain. This route will be hot but not like taking it down to Tamanrasset.

 Re: Raid route
Well it is kinda hard to keep track of informations, when they are all over the places. Please keep subjects regarding routes in the Raid Route section and schedules in the Daily travel times
Cheers Viking

 Re: Raid route
Good stuff. I have no idea of the what route to take and don't know anything about the tracks and border control issues. We need a person willing to take that job on, hint hint

 Re: Raid route
No worries Sean. I just moved over to keep the discussion in the right place. It can suddenly become a mess and confusing if we don't stick to the right catagories.
Cheers
