 Commercial van's legally limited to 60mph
Ok, I had no idea about this so it's probably just my ignorance  however the law states that commercial Van's are limited to 60mph on a duel cariage way (this may not apply to motorways). However if that commercial vehicle is based on a passenger vehicle chassis then its legal speed limit is 70mph. I think the example given was Clio/Escort/Astra vans etc.. This became apparent today as I had a driving assessment and was merrily pootling along in a Transit Connect at 70 My thought was... where do 2cv vans stand, because aren't some of them on an extended chassis? Making that a non-passenger vehicle chassis

There's a strong argument that a Transit Connect is "car derived" - it uses the floorpan from the Mk1 Focus - and some versions are slightly under the 2t GVW cut-off, so you _may_ have been correct. But for the wrong reasons... <g> Anyway - it's a white van. It should be being thrashed like a ginger step-child.

Does'nt stop these "white Van Man Nobs" from overtaking in the third lane towing a large trailer at 80+mph  Those types should be strung up and disembowelled I was on the M6 in Cheshire about 8-9 yrs ago and had three Irish plated lorries(and I do mean 40+ tonners) overtake me at about 80mph, with one in the third lane!!!  B@st@rds!!!!!!!!

Sure it wasn't yellow...? <coughs innocently> I do seem to recall sitting in L3 of the A1M a few years back, at about 85ish, in a certain yellow Sprinter - idly wishing the dick in a repmobile in front would get out of my way - when I remembered the loaded car trailer on the back... Sorry, but I very much doubt it. Even ignoring the fact that 90kph limiters have been a legal requirement on all EU-plated 7.5t+ wagons since 1995, the gearing simply wouldn't allow it. Have a look at Merc's truck website, they have spec sheets on all their wagons - with things like gearing at 90kph and power/torque graphs. The lowest gearing sees about 1500rpm at 90kph - with power just falling off a cliff at 1800rpm, which'd be about 70mph. http://snipurl.com/h56pjAnyway, there'd be a full 38 tonner load of bricks thrown at the drivers and operator as soon as the tachographs were handed over.

 Well it's as true as a true thing mate, I was doing 70 and these three just whizzed past. I was flabbergasted  All I can say is, things must be different across the Irish Channel, (maybe they run their truck on Guinness).

we had a 05 reg daf 7.5t tipper at work that you could pull a fuse out to kill the limiter,you could then get it off the clock if you tried but you carnt fool the tacho as it was a digital thing in the dash and with no disc in it went mental!
