Don't be fooled by the cheap price unless you can afford to toss the body and kkep the rest. Seen many cheap rotten Ami's
Good luck.

I won't be having that one that's for sure, I'm already short on motivation, I don't need anything else getting in the way!

I've actually managed to shake off the "winter blues" today and have a productive afternoon.

I managed to get the doors back onto the passenger side (it's amazing how heavy they are when you're trying to fit them by yourself), turn it around and strip the drivers side in preperation for the real work to begin.

My "mojo" was restored good and proper when after about 10 seconds of cranking, she fired up-first time I've tried since November 2nd!

Onto the (naturally lousy) photos.

Firstly, I had to sweep up the half an Ami that had accumulated on the garage floor.......

I also decided to polish the back wing just to see how it would come up-I was quite impressed!

This part of the bulkhead is a perfect shelf for mud and shit to rest on and rust away, it seems however, that Breton mud has rust beating qualities about sometimes

Image

Believe it or not, this is the only patch of rust on the drivers sill. Now, maybe I'm lazy but I didn't enjoy fitting the sill on the other side so this could quite possibly save me at least a weekends hellish graft!

Meaning that I can spend that time working on the roof instaed

I also need a steering wheel if anybody has got one that I can afford and that I haven't got to travel too far for?

I've got a single spoke 2CV steering wheel if it's any good to you. Are they the same fitting?

Oh, and while I think about it ... would you mind taking a few pictures of the pedal box in that thing? I'm going to have to modify a 2CV pedal box to fit my Ami 6 as it stands, but if I could just drop an Ami 8 pedal box in it'd make the whole thing a lot easier ... cheers.

No, an Ami wheel is one piece with about a foot of column.

And it just so happens I've got one kicking about. Jon, you going to be at Firkin? If not, I'm sure we can relay it from there to you.

I've had another exciting afternoon in the garage today. Well, I say exciting, what that really means is that I've had an incredibly frustrating afternoon!

If you've read thus far, you'll know that last time I was pleased to report that the only rust on the drivers sill was a tiny bit at the back?

Well, that wasn't too far from the truth except the fact that it's had a wonderful repair at some point which involved cutting off some of the front end of the sill and welding a new front half on. Over the rusty remains of the old one.

So, the upshot of this is that I'm gonna have to replace the whole thing. Oh well, I already bought a pair of sills, I guess I was just being lazy really?!

So, I've removed the bodged "over floor", the sill and quite a large chunk of lower bulkhead/footwell and now can't wait to get stuck into letting new metal in.......

Photos (shit of course) of todays "progress":

spanners,
I'm sure I saw a message from you mentioning finding a cheap runabout to use until the Ami weldathon is completed, but cannot find it now.

Anyway, this appeared on the 2CVGB forum today and might fit the bill...

Hi,

I had another response to my Wanted advert on http://www.Preloved.co.uk , but I don't need another car (wife says), so I'm throwing it to the wolves.

Citroen 2CV, about 1990, MOT'd till May.

Taken off road due to illness, owner now accepts he is unlikely to drive for quite a while, if ever. Car has been standing for several months. Rear tyres were getting soft, owner says he has bought two new tubes this week. Battery was flat, it is now on charge, but it may need a new battey.

Asking price is £475, car is in Ross-on-Wye, owner is Brian Davies, telephone 01989 750 359

He gave me rough details of his illness, but not my business to pass it on, but he will probably tell you too. I ask that you don't muck him about ..... as if you would .... and if anybody agrees a sale, can they report back here, so he isn't swamped with unnecessary phone calls.

He also has two bare body shells, one with a VIN plate, but no V5. If you are thinking of fitting a new chassis, make sure you know what happened to the original chassis and V5. Probably safest to fit the body onto a chassis you already own.

Keep me advised, pretty please.
