It wouldn't surprise me, to be honest. This was on my old Charleston, which was a bit of a dog and had been bodged (not by me) in all sorts of ways. ll I know is that when I got it I noticed that the dashboard light had an intermittent fault, and after a week or so I noticed that whenever the dashboard light wasn't working, neither were the brake lights or sidelights. Once I'd traced the fault to the sidelight wire in the headlamp shell, and replaced it with new wire (and replaced the foil with the correct fuse!) everything worked fine. The headlamps and tail lights were unaffected throughout.

Thanks for the replies, just got back from work and its dark, will have the same problem tomorrow, but will see if I can find a multimeter on sunday, see if I can find out what is going on.
