Hmmmm, this just brings back bad memories for me when I ended up at registers in my old Xantia-some lovely lady club member called me a c*nt "Because this event is for 2CVs".

This is one of the reasons I don't go to register's day. As well as the regulars, it also seems to attract the "light summer use only" crowd, who seem much more boringly puritanical than the usual easygoing heavy drinkers I like to associate with. :D

Nothing new there, eh? People have been calling you that for _years_...

Ah. That's new.

Not a 2cv, though, was it?

Anyway, are you going to make us guess who it was? Was she working on a trade stand?

Ditto. I try to avoid mere mortals as usually I end up wanting to throttle them. Come to think of it, it's never a case of merely wanting to, more one of actually doing so. 'Toxic' to the group was one persons verdict on me  I think she meant 'Play nice with the other kid's old-Nail', it's something I've not mastered yet.

That would have been my preferred option.

Yep .....frequently have done [and not just 2CVGB meetings either]
As a member of 2CVGB,the CCC & several 'bike owners clubs I'll cheerfully turn up in [or on] anything....[providing I'm the owner of the said vehicle].
It makes for an interesting discussion if nothing else.

If anyone said that to me I'd tell him [or her] to FCUK OFF!
When I turn up at any meeting I expect to meet like minded people who have an interest in vehicles ......not narrow minded blinkered twunts who think they are better than than me 'cos they think their vehicle is better than mine.

Post Re: Would you drive something different to a meeting?
For me the car has just been the catalyst for some amazing times with some life long friends. If it hadn't have been for those good times and those great friends would I still drive an A-series Citroen? Maybe not. But I have those memories and look forward to many more. If a snowy day in hell comes along and I'm forced to sell my 2CV, would I abandon it all? No, definitely not. And I'd know that I'd still be welcome at events regardless of how I got there - and be happy to pay the premium charge at big meetings.
The name of this forum says it all.

Where do you draw the line? Only A series? So no H vans, DS, Tractions etc? Ok, so only citroëns? Then I can turn up in my old C25 or a new C1? Only French cars? Then I can turn up in my Renault Clio?

Of course, event organisers can chose to exclude cars on whatever grounds they like, but excluding people serves little more than creating a bad atmosphere and a cliquey event. And they are turning down money. It's only worth excluding those who want to cause trouble, and if they are driving a 2cv too, so be it.

I find it really quite sad and worrying that someone would click on the "No - what's the point in going to a meeting/club connected with a certain car in something else?" option.

I've had to go to events in a non A-series to fetch parts for my A-series, without which it would've never seen the road again! Maybe I should've got someone else to collect them for me then put them in a brown paper bag in a litter bin down the road for me to grab when nobody is looking?

I'm so glad I've met so many great friends within the Citroen and 2CV fraternity and I really, honestly hope and pray that this isn't an attitude that becomes widely adopted by others!
