Post Would you drive something different to a meeting?
Carried over from here - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2601&p=56323#p56323

I've always thought it a bit strange to see non-marques at marque related events, eg the Rover P6 at last years Lincs Bells & Whistles & an "Overlander" Land Rover camper at a National.

Personally, if I couldn't take Belinda to a meeting then I wouldn't bother because I'd feel a bit left out seeing everybody elses cars there & not having mine but what does everybody else think?

This is not a "Should we preclude non marque cars" thread, I'm just saying that I think it's a bit odd to attend a meeting connected with a certain type of car and then take something else.

Sorry if I offend anyone, that's not my intention

I've not voted because none of the options fit the bill for me. I'd say if it wasn't possible to use the A series then go anyway but in something else. I go to shows to see what other people have done with their cars and chat to them. I can still do that by turning up in a transit van or whatever.

The whole experience is better in the appropriate vehicle of course, but there's still plenty left if it just so happens that you don't have a suitable car on the road at that time.

I was at stirling nat in a pug 205

sometimes life just means you got to park the A series for a bit- but why miss out in seeing all your chums in the one place?

Ok, I've added another poll option which will hopefully cater for Old Nail & Sean. This is maybe one of the things I'm trying to ask really - if you DO have a working A series, would you still go in something else?

I think I turned up to an event in an A-series once.

i think its nice when other classic cars are sometimes there as it show were not complete arss and hate other cars, unlike the mini cooper club!

i drove the dyane to mini registers day (as by brothers all own minis) and they just shoved my car into the car park with the modern cars at the back where no one could see it. i asked why cant i park it some where near the other minis, the bloke said naaah we only show minis

plus theres was rubbish compared to ours, you cant camp at there meetings

I think of the camps as a big piss up with mates, with the cars being almost incidental to the whole process. I wouldn't go to Register's Day in the Fourtrak, but then Register's Day isn't my thing anyway. The one I did go to, back in 1995, I spent half the weekend shagging and the other half (the Sunday when all the shiny cars arrived) green laning up around Buxton with two other cars. By the time we got back to the site (Donnington Park), everyone had gone home. :D

Its a difficult one and certainly a bone of contention in another world i frequent more frequently than the 2cv one rally/meet wise, the scooter scene.
Some argue its not how you get there its the taking part but for others riding your classic scooter there be it down the road or in Spain is a big part of what its about, taking it in a van or on a trailer or just going in a car or on your modern scooter or bike is just not really doing it ,and if everybody just did that then what would be the point in it other than just a gathering of people :?

Where is the "I'm an anti social bastard and a website is as close as I want to get to people" option?

Hmmmm, this just brings back bad memories for me when I ended up at registers in my old Xantia-some lovely lady club member called me a c*nt "Because this event is for 2CVs".

The fact that I'd broken down in my H Van the previous day and had to go there for many reasons just fell on deaf and very arogant ears!

If Rachael and I both go, we take the BX (or Disco/Freelander etc) and caravan-we go as much as anything else to catch up with friends and, as has already been said, the cars are a very happy coincidence.

I'll be turning up at Firkin for an afternoon or evening in either the BX or the Disco as the Ami is, ahem, not quite* finished yet. Look forwards to seeing people.

And cars ;)

*When I say not quite, I mean nowhere bloody near :(
