Re: 10 mph speed increase !
I had 79.9mph coming downhill on the M5 earlier,Sat-Nav accuracy(very). When 2cv is showing an indicated 70mph, it's actually doing about 67mph. And It's still on a Special speedo. Most I've had in the 2cv is 83.2mph.... Scary!!

I kept meaning to lob a better breather on it, and I know the little ends are a bit knackered due to a lubrication failure a couple of years ago. That's a lubrication failure as in a failure <whistles innocently> to put oil back in it after draining it and before starting it up to cure the firegum after changing the crossbox...

Re: 10 mph speed increase !
I think that my 2CV was probably the only one in the world that had a radar detector fitted. They are illegal in Australia, the fine being about AUD $2,500 (halve that for pounds Sterling). It was fitted under the front chassis (so that it was out of sight) and also so that it had no metal in front of it. This exercise was necessary because I had lost my licence speeding, in a 2CV. Some people are natural over-achievers. There was a time when the police mounted speed cameras in unmarked cars and parked them on the side of the road. Very unsporting of them, but Australia was colonised by convicts, so we were all crooks 200 years ago. It was eventually knocked from its mounts after negotiating a very rough road to a friends farm. Since then I have been lucky.
What is even more fun than going fast in a 2CV is slip streaming a Road Train. These vehicles consist of a prime mover and trailer plus an extra two trailer behind that. They measure over 50 metres long. They are usually referred to as 42 or 48 wheelers. Sitting a couple of car lengths behind them for an hour or two requires a lot of concentration, but gives you a very cheap ride as you get sucked along. It is a good idea to contact the driver on CB radio to let him know. He can then tell you if he is slowing down (say for a railway crossing. It is a very effective way to cash in your life insurance if you get it wrong. Sorry I don't know how to upload a photo of one of these.
