Where's Erasmo? His car is galvanised.

Here he is! ;)

This is where I drive around in on a daily base:

My new 2CV. by Erasmo..., on Flickr

As you can see it's a mix of dip and e-coat. The body and more sturdier parts are dipped and the other stuff is e-coated.

The distortion of the body itself isn't that bad but for example the front wings are a bit under tension when mounted.

If you want to know about specific places of the body just let me know and I'll take a picture of it for you.

Corr! For some reason, all these sexy pics are reminding me of an old Roger Mellie strip in Viz, where he deputises for a drunk Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear, and his review of the new Ferrari Testosterossa ends up with him shagging the car!

TwoFiftyAZU: yes I did see the Volvo. Bloody beautiful! (BTW how's your van project coming along?)
But remind me, is E-coating the same as "powder coating", where an electrical charge is put on the metal, then it's coated with powder, and then baked?

Smiffy,
we'd know 'E-coating' as electroplating, much kinder to relatively thin, flat panels than dunking them in molten zinc at 450*C.

However, the coating thickness is usually only about 15 microns, compared to 85 microns with the hot dip process.

Erasmo's car is the business, wish I could find the time to do the same to a Dyane.
No more welding, painting or Waxoyling.
Deep joy... ;)

How long do they spend with a set of taps cleaning the threads out? That must be the hardest part of the whole process!

I quite like the idea of a galvanised 2cv.
I am also stumped as to how to go about it

Could you pai t over the galvy ? I love the look of yours erasamo but I like mine red and white ;)

I geuss our dear repair panel suppliers wouldn't be on support of this idea

I wonder if there's anywhere in the uk you could get all this done?

Have emailed a Smethwick-based company (ie close to the very top of the M5, near Birmingham) asking for details and an indicative quote. (Wonder if they'll do bulk orders...? :) )

TwoFiftyAZU: where did you get your Volvo done?
