 Re: My 2cv
2CV has now passed 200,000miles on it's original, untouched engine, but it is producing some smoke on cold starting, so looks like a light top-end over-haul is on the cards in the not too distant future. As soon as I find the thingy that I slot in the computer that the other thingy inside the phone fits into, I'll upload a photo. Don't expect a perfect picture though, it was very dark when taken on the M5 passing J9 (Tewksbury) last night.

 Re: My 2cv
Weather has been quite nice today, so took the opportunity to get the 2CV out and go for a drive. I took off down the M5 and M50 to Welsh Wales and headed for Abergavenny. From there, I headed north and took the mountain road past Llantony Priory and over Gospel Pass to Hay Bluff, just above Hay-on-Wye. Parked up on Hay Common ate my pack lunch and decided to drop down to Hay and peruse a few of its book shops. I didn't get very far when the road started to drop quite steeply and out of the sunlight. It was then that the drive took on an altogether different feel. The road was covered in hard frost and very slippery, a couple who were walking up the road stopped me and explained that just round the corner the road dropped even steeper and it was sheet ice, so best not go that way. To be honest, I could see the conditions getting worse, so I decided to go back the way I came. The road is rather narrow with passing places, so quite difficult to turn round, so I thought I'd reverse back up the hill.....Well, after 5minutes of trying, I realised I wasn't going anywhere, it was so slippery I just couldn't get any grip. So I very gingerly moved the car forward down the hill, sliding all over the place and eventually got to a bit of the road that was just wide enough to turn the car round and then tried getting back up the hill in first gear...I did eventually get to the top, but I had to keep blipping the throttle in first gear (I couldn't even use second, was just far too steep and slippery). Lesson learnt, I won't use that road again in winter

 Re: My 2cv
Blimey! I know that road. For the first half of yr last post I was dead jealous... for the second half I thanked my lucky stars that I was stuck at home all day in front of a computer! Glad that no harm came to you and your car.

 Re: My 2cv
I thought this was going to be an unwound gearbox story when I got to the reversing bit. At least you ducked that one!

 Re: My 2cv
Having got to over 200,000miles without it unwinding (I've done 130,000 of those miles and I'm assuming it hadn't unwound before I owned it), I think the chances of this box unwinding is (hopefully) pretty unlikely, especially given the amount of abuse I gave it at times, trying to get up that hill Now watch as I reverse it out the garage later on and it.....

 Re: My 2cv
I did the first one driving it backwards like a pillock, the second one I did rolling slowly downhill off the drive!
