A couple of jobs this week, one involving sorting out an engine which had struggled to pass its MOT last year because of high HC readings.

The owner's neighbour had helped him to fit new points and condenser and adjust the timing shortly before a little jaunt to Germany that year but after the trip it wasn't as happy as it had been before, unfortunately.

Guess this might be somehow connected...

Will be starting on a 'think the clutch is slipping' job tomorrow, which could be interesting as when I started the car to move it from where it had been parked, it wasn't possible to move it, either forwards or backwards.
Thought it might be the wheels spinning on the sheet ice, so left it in gear with the engine running and got out to have a look see...
No wheels were rotating, so now I'm wondering how the poor thing was driven 50 miles to get here ( and what state the flywheel may be in).

And cool picture, lets see what happened to the clutch as well. Stuff like that is fun, especially if it's not a Citroën...... It feels good to do jobs with a big difference from before and after.

I fail to see the problem with that piston, if the engine was still running, then why worry?

the bottom part looks nice and shiny to me !!
When fitted in an engine you don't see it anyway !!
when there aren't holes in it just use it !!
Do you reelly need it, one will do !!
You don't need to grease it that much before fitting in in a engine !!

Anyhow, engine is out of the plastic van in less than an hour and flywheel looks to have survived, so a few more beers tonight and I'll be in the mood for putting it all back together in the morning, before the snow returns.

As expected, the crew who put this 'kit van' together hadn't even separated the engine and gearbox to check the clutch, so I reckon that the gearbox won't have been peened to prevent it unwinding.

May as well do that while the wings are off to save a return visit, now that the clutch is functional again and normal abuse can be resumed.
