Please explain how a 2cv engine will benefit from use motor oil for diesel motors.
We are not talking other machines, bikes, race cars or modern diesel cars.

because it cleans the engine there isnt as much varnishing( brown staining inside the engine)

it copes better with soot particles and as the car is past its first flush of youth it may have a bit of ring wear

and as i said ive got 40L of the stuff to use up

being 15/40 its better in the cold northern climate

but as you said there isnt really that much differance really any clean oil is better than dirty expensive stuff

It will provide lubrication and cooling for the same or less of these: £.

Also in emergency situations I've only found 15/40 in diesel form in the shops.

If I ever convert the D*lly to a diesel, I'll use the appropriate lube oil.
Meantime, I'm happy to be using Penrite Classic Medium.
This'll explain why, I hope.

James - don't panic, I had my tongue firmly planted in my cheek - I'm happy with it just the way it is!

BTW, I just picked up on this gem from part of the Castrol blurb ...
"...For older vehicles; veteran, vintage and classic, use an oil of the correct viscosity as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer and shown in your vehicle’s handbook."

I must rush away now, to consult the "handbook" for the Sizaire & IHC

cant understand all this paranoia about using an oil that is badged as suitable for diesel

there is nothing in diesel suitable oil that will harm a 2cv

there is nothing in petrol suitable oil that will harm a diesel

pertrol oil in a diesel will not protect it to the same extent but outside the lab youll be hard pushed to notice

whats important as "Petite..." pointed out is the weight of the oil, Castrol, Chevron et all say "consult manufacturer re correct viscosity"

It's feeling positively tropical. I couldn't decide whether or not to have the hood open on the 2cv earlier, in the end I decided not to...... A decision I now regret
