The cable that crosses the engine and connects both heat exchangers had to be replaced today, so I visited Ecas and bought a new one. When I came to fit it earlier, I found that my original cable had a loop on one end which fits over a post on the off-side heat exchanger gate, but the new cable doesn't. What's the best way of fitting the new cable? Can I fit another attachment like the one fitted to the near-side heat exchanger? The cable slots through a hole on a rectangular block that is attached to the gate via the post. I should take some photos to help explain what I mean, I'll try and do that tomorrow.

I may be wrong, but I think there is normally a rectangular block with a bolt in the side, on both heat exchangers. On the left hand side it's holds two wires with a bolt in either side, and on the right hand one, just the one wire. It sounds like the block's been lost from your right(offside) exchanger. Either see if someone can find you a spare block, or bend a loop in the new cable.

Thanks for the reply, Joolz. Looking at the original cable, I would say it is OE, so the loop in the cable is correct. If so, then I can't see why Citroen would need to fit a block on that side. I'll look in to finding and fitting one of those blocks with a hole in it.

It's a sad day when the manufacturers of replacement parts can't be bothered to put a loop on such a simple component as that cable, when everyone else knows that it ought to be there...

Btw, Jonathan, I think you'll find that the spring clip which secures the cable to the operating lever is shallower on the loop end, so that a block won't fit into it.

Ah, thanks Ken. So I'm right in thinking the looped cable is correct? What's the best option to take?

Unfortunately, these are not, I suspect, true OEM replacement parts - after 20+ years of obsolescence, who is going to provide parts exactly like the real thing when you have such a limited market.....

O/T slightly and just to save starting another thread....I've heard that the exhaust on early 2cvs was very short and exited just behind the front wheel. Is that true? If so, do those early cars suffer with exhaust fumes entering the car interior? I'm just curious.
