Oh, I completely agree about the Dyane, btw. Shocking. If you've spunked that kind of money for a restored car, most folk wouldn't even look under it, assuming it must be fine.

Russell,
I wonder if it's because most of your cars have been lowered to the point where
they're jiggling along on the bumpstops, but I can certainly tell when I'm driving
one of those chassis which have been 'developed and refined' to the Nth degree. ;)

I serviced a car the other week, which as well as the aforementioned underpinnings,
also had new Lipmesa dampers, wheels and Michelin X tyres fitted within the previous
5,000 miles.
Even on a relatively smooth road, it was possible to detect some scuttle shake but
when I took it along one of the local back roads, it felt as though it was trying to
shake itself apart.
I guess that's what happens when the 'design' produces a torsional stiffness which
is barely 20% of an OE chassis.

Btw, both bumpstops on that particular chassis were in the process of separating
from the chassis, even though it had been set above the correct ride height when
the chassis was originally installed.
Have you found any of those yet?

Ken.

I don't believe you can tell a difference. I think it's more to do with what shocks and tyres the car has. I don't think a chassis will bend enough for you to notice it when hooning. I've heard people say that certain chassis are better than others, but never heard any way of backing it up or making it plausable.

Ken?

One was designed and built by an eingineer and independantly tested the other was a copy by people that didnt know much and seem to be developed down to a price

one has been raced and abused in Africa and Aus the other seems to be dropping bits in normal road use(allegedly)
ill be getting threatened with legal action now
