alternator belt slipping, alternator bearing, metal cover over said belt catching on pulley.

Quote: "There is No belt on at present and Sorry Forgot to say its.....A GS engined Beast There have to be 2 belts going to your cams otherwise your engine doesn't run. Possebly one of the tensioner bearings has gone, or the belt is rubbing against the cooling housing (I don't know the English word)

Re: Loud screachy Noise from Somewhere!!
Could be the clutch fork; not sitting at the correct location. Clutch fork is hitting the clutch housing. Is your clutch cable on tension enough or is it loose could be your clutch cable too then (hitting the clutch housing)
When your clutch cable is mounted correctly put down your clutch pedal and see if the sound then dissapears, then it will be your clutch bearing.
Try to locate where the sound comes from front; back; left or right side from the engine it will help (us)

Also replaced the clutch all 3 pieces, so I was thinking it might have something to do with that, all seemed to go back on fine!! But looks like its going to be an engine out job!! Bugger!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm quite liking lpgo's suggesting of cambelt rubbing on cowling. What torque did you do the front crank nut to? It's meant to be STUPID tight then peened, IIRC. If that works loose, then the cambelts can go for a wander in very short order, which is not something you really want to happen.

I'm sure i locked (well held tight the flywheel) and gave it a good tugging!!! The nut that is!! From what I can recall on Monday night, the noise seemed to be coming from the middle not the front!! I've had belts rub in the past but it never sounded like this....Really was ear piercing, almost had to cover ya ears it was that good!!! Probably should of try to get it running before I replaced everything, Cam belts, tensioners, plugs leads coil dizzy cap, complete clutch etc, might of had a better idea, by a matter of elimination!! Following Ipgo reply The clutch, plate or bearing, or something in there is probably the most likely, Could it be a knackered (but New) release bearing, but don't bearings make more of a rumble than a high pitch screach!!!??? No doubt we will get there in the end, just have to take it all apart Again... But thats the whole fun of owning one of these rare beasts I suppose..!!

Re: Loud screachy Noise from Somewhere!!
Is the clutch cable fitted yet, if it is coming from the clutch then treading on the pedal should have some effect on the noise, not saying it will go away, but it would probably change some how.
If the cable's not connected yet, it could be the bottom of the clutch fork rubbing on the flywheel. I had that happen before, although only turning the motor by hand, I went 'oh crap' for a minute before realising what it was.
Check nothing's fallen between the crankcase and flywheel.

No doubt we will get there in the end, just have to take it all apart Again... Take the time to try to identify the source first. When you say "the middle", do you mean the centre of the crankcase? Or the clutch area (middle of the whole engine/box)? If it's the crankcase, then there's really only the crankshaft in there. It it is the crank, then I wouldn't even bother with diagnosis, just bin that engine and lob another in.
