It's the "Old Crocks" London to Brighton run tomorrow, I'm seriously thinking of head down to see it. I'd love to see those pre 1905 cars pootling along at 20mph, will make my 2cv feel very quick.

i do love a bit of bowie, all his songs are great, life on mars is the best, written in 1969, 41 years on, still a great tune!

I thought Space Oddity was released in '69 and Life On Mars was originally released in '71 and re-released in '73(hence the reason why BBC's Life on Mars TV series was set in '73) :)

could of sworn it was 69, maybe wrong, but im almost certain ;)

Fair Dink, I stand corrected  Sorry James :D

It was 69 and it was played on "sounds of the sixties" on Radio 2 this very morning if you were up early enough.

i tend to tune in to radio 2, but the ariel on my car is abuot as useful as a flat head screwdriver and a phillips screw, so i tend to listen to cd player most often, need to put that sub back in and throw cd player in the trash

icnidently, i have tom tom on my iphone, and my co pilot jane (tom tom jane), ive managed to get her to come out through the speakers in the car, in surround, so sitting in traffic, "ahead, keep right" everyone looks :D

Was that with Tony Blackburn 602? between 1 and 3 on a Sat. I try to catch it if I can.

BTW the two Bowie LP's (CD's) that I rate the highest are 'Hunky Dory' and 'Ziggy Stardust', I have others but they are the ones to beat imho.

I've been building a bicycle out of bits this evening. Over the last year or so I've been collecting loads of nice retro bits off otherwise shagged old bicycles and this week finally bought a nice frame on ebay to bolt them all to. Pics tomoz if I finish it.

This means I have to get rid of my other retro bike as I've been informed the hallway currently looks like a scene out of Steptoe. So if anyone wants a late 60s raleigh in really nice condition let me know before I put it on fleabay.

Brian Matthew on Saturday morning 8 am - 10, been going years. Plays all sorts of great 60's stuff and some really obscure stuff too.

Didn't realise Blackburn was back at the Beeb, I see he started back today.

So question. What was the first record played when Radio 1 first opened, DJ was Tony Blackburn.
