"For one there’s the recession. These days, and I hate to chuck a downer, in there but it’s true, people just can’t afford to chuck money at their cars. There are two people we can thank for that john Major and his buddy the chancellor."

Plus ça change, well the names......

Ami Super Service is certainly a rare old beast. There's a bit in this months 'Citroenian' magazine that i'll type out below for the benefit of those who aren't in the CCC...

Quote:
The Ami Super Service Van provided combined the concept of a utilitarian commercial vehicle with motorway performance. As on the Ami 8 Service van, the floor was completely flat due to no need for a rear seat well & there were ingenious stowage spaces in the insides of the panels.

Only 801 examples were built, between January 1973 & October 1975. Unlike with other Amis, the UK received no less than 1/8 of the total number of Ami Super vans. 99 vans were sold in the UK between early 1973 & mid 1974. 30 in 1973 & 69 in 1974. Only one survives today.

A very interesting UK market example was described in The Citroenian of August 1992. 00JH0490 built June 1973. Regd. PRV 283N Does it still exist? Ami Super service Tolee: one fitted with side windows.

will have to find an estate body shell lhd and confert it to rhd using the existing one. then cut out the van sections and weld them in to the new shell. that is all citroen did when they first built it. if you look inside the back of the van you can see the rear door holes filled in by metal but also the strips of metal used to hold the door rubbers in. shit loads of work not a job for the faint hearted but it needs to be saved. there is also the super chassis and running gear available for sale. front arms turned longer tie rods and ami springs rear anti roll bar etc etc. i got a replacment ready to go.

Forgive me for being a pedant but, you're not restoring a very rare Ami Super Service at all by the sounds of things but merely building a replica? :?

Agree, you don't butcher such a rare car. Do it right or pass it to someone willing to treasure the car.

Especially as I remember Tarquin being more than a little miffed when someone bought his RHD Ami 6 and broke it in order to use the bulkhead in another car ... :?

ok so i know that this is not exactly how you restore a car. but given the poor state of the shell ie no roof gutter i cant realistically see any other way of fixing it.Try and find ami roof gutter! what else can i do please tell me. i dont really want to break another car. At least its still got its registration documents and i will be using as much of the original as possible. if you look in the pics of how it was when running to what is now i think youll agree theres a lot of work to be done. its the old saying how much of the old car do you save before its a new vehicule. or as trigger from only fools and horses said Ive had this brush for 15 years its only had 4 handles and 6 brushes but its still the same brush. this is all academic anyway as i cant see this getting done for at least 5-10 years. i think building a replica is a bit strong. Replica means you are making somthing from scratch and im not doing that am i we have a contact in france that has ami 8 estates given to him they have little or no value other there according to him and has said that when i need an ami 8 body shell just to let him know. at least if i break an ami 8 it wont end up as a lomax or some other pile of shit.
