perhaps it's time for 'O/T Thread' to have a forum of its own?

That's a pretty comprehensive 'against' then!

I am surprised. Or, should I say, I don't understand.

To me, logic would suggest you either have an O/T section or you don't. If you decide 'yeah, let's have one...', then why not do it 'proper'? It would be self-regulating; any threads entitled "Wayne Rooney's move" would be given as wide a berth by me as the "How green is your grass?" one - I simply wouldn't go there. Other peeps might - that's fine.

When a meaty topic comes up on the current - single - O/T thread, the only way you can add to it is by first referring back to the last post on the subject before the 'Rooney'* bit came along and broke the flow.

*Nothing against the fellow - apart from him being an ignorant, petulant twerp.

I think an OT section would be good. I mod a cycling forum and we have a section on there called the Cafe, which is for any and every topic not (necessarily) related to cycling. Only this morning I started a thread about how I ran over my ipod with a tractor unit at work last night. (Which is absolutely true ... it survived intact and still works. The tractor unit, that is. :) ) We also have a section for political debate, as well as sections for all aspects of cycling. Some members never post outside Cafe, some spend all their time posting in the Commuting section, some can't go for five minutes without posting about Mountain Biking. But it all works.

i dont think its a bad idea, as often the ot thread is always being posted in, minutily sometimes, and keeping up and having to read back is a pain in the butt sometimes

I didn't want to use the O/T forum simply because I tend to write more than a single paragraph, and it would perhaps appear to monopolise or clutter this bit. Shooting the breeze in general seems to be what the OT section is about, small talk perhaps.

I asked only because I often shoot off at a tangent even when talking about 2cv's, I find it difficult to confine my thoughts to a single band of interest. However, I have to accept that this site was set up to do precisely that, and the silence indicates that that's how it must remain. Not to worry, maybe it's for the best.

O-N, I welcome your digressions, no matter how long they are, so I didn't want to put you off... just not that bothered about having a whole O/T forum. On the other hand, why not post up your writings on a separate blog, and then link to them from here (as you did with your Blue Bamboo blog). We could still comment on your writings on here.
Just a thought.

Yep that might be they way, then perhaps those that are interested would have a choice whether they clicked on it...er which is what they would have had anyway, but this way perhaps is better. I don't use that facepage/mybook thingy as it seems to appeal mainly to those busy avoiding doing their homework.

James posted something elsewhere which reminded me of something that I think is important so I'll add it here too. For the last two days when logging in to I2f My anti virus has caught a trojan that has attempted to download. It happened again just now when I came here, are you aware of this? Anyone else had it?

The one today was Win32/Spy.Zbot.YW trojan. The one from yesterday was Bredolab.BE trojan downloader. Just thought you guys should know. Anyone without good up to date security might want to run a malware software to see if you have picked one up, as trojans steal passwords and such.
