 Excuse me while have a quick whinge about misuse of the English language. Recently seen not too far from here, and a few other places recently, usually ebay. The replacement of the word 'have' with 'of'. As in 'I could of studied English at Oxford if I wasn't such a cretin'. I can see how it's happened, people use 'could've', 'should've' etc in conversation, and think the words they're using are 'could of', it's not, it's an abbreviation of 'could have'. FFS stop doing it now before it becomes accepted.

Well said that man!

It's a pet hate of mine too and, despite moaning at Taffy for doing it, he's still doing it! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I should apologise here for making an example of Taffy. Sorry bud. ;) :)

Yeah, give the man credit, it is after all his second language. ;)

Looks like I loosened the lid on the jar marked 'worms' again. This was always guaranteed to set people off, although I can assure you that that was not the intention.

I have to confess that the auto spellchecker frequently finds words to underline in my posts, usually I can spot the mistake straight away, the problem being caused by looking at the keyboard while I type, and not at what I'm writing. On occasions when my spelling does fail me, I do try and make a mental note of the correction. When I sometimes don't trust the American spellchecker (despite it's being set to English english), then I'll often google a word just to be on the safe side. Add to this that I nearly always preview my posts, and then reread them until I'm happy. The downside of this is that a post can frequently take 20mins or so, but being a bit obsessive, it would mortify me if people found it full of errors.

Finally, I'm inviting honest answers to this one, are my posts in anyway awkward to read? Despite my being satisfied with the spelling and grammar, and doing my best with the punctuation, I frequently think that they don't read easily, but I'm not sure why.

Personally speaking, I find your posts as well thought out as they evidently are and as readable, if not more so than most of the rest of them.

I should apologise for not learning better English, It's something that doesn't bother me, probably because when I say things, generally folk understand me so I find it hard to gather the inclination and enthusiasm to bother learning how to do it properly. I know I'm almost constantly wrong with grammar and punctuation, let alone spelling, but I'm afraid I really can't be bothered to go and redo any education I evidently didn't listen to the first time round. I'm pretty sure that's not to my credit either.

I confess that I hammer out responses pretty quickly. I then post them, read them through and if it looks especially odd resort to the edit button before anyone notices the abberations; or at least I fondly imagine the abberations go unnoticed.

English isn't my first language but hopefully it makes some sort of sense
