For anyone who was curious about the location of that photograph which I posted, it was taken by the celebrated French photographer, Marc Riboud, during his visit to Leeds in 1954.

Click on 'Archives', then 'Leeds'.
Pity that the planners decided it was a such a good idea to bulldoze these well established communities, breaking them up and forcing people to live in soulless high rise blocks...

I love photo's like that Ken, it seems another world away now, hard to believe we were there.

It's funny how an image captured on film can evoke memories, but I wonder how many of you on this forum would take random photos of ordinary streets complete with Ford Focuses, Honda Civics, VW Golfs, Citroen C5s and Rover 25s(remember them?). Today's ordinary, is tomorrow's history....... and "rose tint".

'again this morning my wife has asked me to write a book on my experiences'

So many people who have led interesting lives have failed to do this and those left behind after they've gone feel cheated that they will never know all the exciting and interesting details of a unique relative's extraordinary life. I have seen your writings on here and elsewhere and you are clearly a person with much experience of adversary.

If you nothing else, Nail, do this.

Your wife is obviously a wise woman. Listen to her. ;)

Is that you 'outing' yourself Russ?

Funny enough I had that Python scene in my mind when I was writing earlier, which probably explains why I haven't done the book. By the way, did I tell you about those freezing winters when as kids we all used to huddle round a single candle? And when it got Really cold ...we'd light it. :P

The town I left behind is the stuff of nightmares, if you have ever watched 'Shameless' on channel 4 and thought it was a work of fiction then think again, because that's the sanitised non-violent TV version of where I came from.

i love shamless, fav tv program of all!, i can understand what your saying about that being real life, what they show is pretty rough, but realistic. friend of mine has been to the "jockey" and says its pretty grim like in the series
