Bing! Just bought two, that can be my next little project along with fitting a high level stoplight in the back window.

Post Re: Headlamp relays for halogen bulbs
this is something i really want to do, as i want halogens,

but it all confuses me so much!!

i need to change my loom over, as mine is still burnt out, from my blonde moment

also bearing in mind my previous track record for blowing the bloody thing up, how hard is it to mess up!

i shouldnt mess it up if i have a diagram like adrians provided, and thinking space, the last cock up was due to a singing distraction (the mrs)

im going to buy 2 of those relays!

edit

also would it be easier if i pre wired it into my non dip dim loom before i install it?

If I fit the halogens without relays for the time being am I risking armageddon or no?

Possibly, possibly not. Does the switch get warm currently?

I'd make one small change to the wiring diagram at the end of the link Ken posted...

I'd put the fuse between battery & relay, not t'other side. As for the fuses, a normal spade terminal fits perfectly onto the leg of a modern-style blade fuse.

any tips as to the colours of those wires? i will look in the haynes manual, but worth an ask :)

Citroen wires arent colour coordinated
green are the lightest guage then grey, yellow and finally blue for the charging

headlights are on grey wires ( but some had dipped on green) the coloured terminals are yellow for dipped green for main (or vice versa)

Ill do it with a multimeter, ordered 2 relays, and now need to get some wire from frauds, so i can wire them up, unless wire ive got is thick enough, its thicjer than loom wire

if yoiu strip out the dim dip there is plenty spare wire in the system

find the two wires that you need comming out of the bulkhead and cut them off the multi pin relay conectors

the wire going to the mains is there going from the relays again snip the wire

the dipped are a differnt matter as you have to take the loom apart to get to various in line crimps which need cutting and re making

it helps to do one system at a time mains are easier

you need a 6mm ring and use your thicker wire to run a siamese power wire from the battery to the relays

you also have to earth the relays so another couple of rings on short wires to the battery tray screws on the bulkhead

ill dig out my notes on the process

pre dim dip fiasco is simple

work out which wire does what(pin and multimeter)
cut it stick a female insulated blade on the cut bits

the wire coming out of the bulkhead goes to 86 on relay and the one in the loom to the lights goes to 87

85 goes to earth via ring terminal on battery carrier

30 is fed from battery

one for dipped one for mains and bobs yer uncle

like in the wire diagram :D

simples

i was thinking, why one relay per beam, why not one per light rather than one per beam? or would that complicate matters far to much?

im going to stick with the original idea but i thought it was worth an ask anyway ;)
