 Re: this years MOT questions
I think a tester could quite legitimately fail a rust hole in the springcan, it is a stressed part of the suspension.
You could file the hole round so it looked like it was meant to be there, and then put one in the other can too. Or put a piece of gaffertape over the hole and then a coat of under seal to hide it. If it was me I'd turn it round so it couldn't be seen, but still put some tape over it to stop the water getting in.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to address the cause of the hole, that the canister's got water in, instead of oil.

 Re: this years MOT questions
yer i spun it round so you cant see it a while back, but its slowly spinning round slowly, so ill have to spin it again. its not a bad idea to tape it and renew then eventuallly, i think its just the one hole, but i will check both sides thoroughly, and in the mean time change them, great, another mind baffeling task ahead of me..

Jameswallace wrote: great, another mind baffeling task ahead of me.. James, I can see that you're the eternal pessimist! Jobs really don't have to be and, quite often aren't baffling. If you go into everything that you do with the "this looks really difficult, I can't do that, that looks way too hard for me" kind of aproach, you're more likely to find it hard because you've already convinced yourself. Coming on here and announcing to the (I2F) world that you're going to find it difficult is only going to reaffirm your beliefs because, as a pessimist, you're more likely to listen to the few bits that people may say are slightly awkward as opposed to the majority which say it's easy! I probably sound like I'm having a go? I'm not but negativity really pisses me off. If you try something and then find you can't do it, fair enough but, have a go, get your hands dirty and, I dare say, you'll more often than not find that you can do it. Rant over.

 Re: this years MOT questions
I think most people would just put a different can on, not bother with rebuilding it. But seriously, tape over the hole, turn it upside down, put some oil in it, it'll be fine.

Joolz is suggesting you fit a secondhand can from a scrap car.
