righty oh, from time to time i have to charge my phone while in the car on the go, (often at night) and i will obviously have the headlights on etc, and the phone charges fine. but if i brake, or indicate, or basically use a bit more power, the phone goes into a spazam and 1 sec is charging then isnt then is etc etc. not only is this irritating, but doesnt charge while in spazam mode.

ive used thick wire to the fag lighter adapter thing, and i cant see any reason why it wouldnt be getting enough current...

btw my phone is an iphone,,

I would say your phone is sucking more power than is available. I would ask:
how new is your battery?
What state is your voltage regulator in?
is the alternator the original?

It would sound like when you're using extra power (break lights are 25w) there isnt enough for the phone - which could be a sign that your battery isnt being charged properly.

There's no reason it should happen - ive just driven home, headlights on, sub powered up, ipod charging, iphone charging, etc... no problem.

erm oroginal alt, original reg, and battery a year old or so....
id geussed it was not enough power, seems to obvious! the alternator/fan belt is looking a bit worn, but it still turns the bloody thing fine! ill check tension tomrow!

Pop in some led brake lights that draw less power.

I can't imagine that an i-phone can ever draw very much current from a 2CV's charging circuits/battery etc.

Isn't it much more likely that it contains a clever piece of software designed to protect its innards if the current fluctuates too much - which of course it will.

If so, reducing the current used elsewhere in the car isn't going to make a lot of difference.

RE the heater

Looks very like the one I bought for my son's old Cleo - which had no working heater.
It was really very hot indeed - it lasted about a month until it melted ! The in-line fuse never blew but the fan blades warped and the case around the heating element started dripping molten plastic onto the dash. ( Cleared the windscreen in an instant whilst it worked !)

Especially since it's designed to be charged from USB - which is a maximum of 500mA.

use a multimeter to check the chargingof the battery.
around 2000rpm this should be max 14,7 volts.
