The article contains lots of useful information for potential 2cv purchasers including price guides.

The expert who provided the information for the article suggested that a ‘basket case’ 2cv could be had for as little as £600 - £800 while a fully restored example could fetch £6-8k. Fully restored ripples bonnets meanwhile often exceed £10k.

The lovely G reg bamboo featured in the article was provided by a Kent based specialist, however there was no mention in the article of the rather creative rear panel – see for yourself.

In all seriousness – it’s a totally pants piece of writing, to me it read as if it had been written with a “this is a silly looking car lets write really tongue in cheek.” Pah.

It was a good bit of PR for 2CVGB, although the text implied that you should always check out SPOG before looking elsewhere. Ecas gets a good mention too though.

I was just irritated by the article – I hate being branded as owning a car that ‘barely has enough power to escape a paper bag’ (WTF??).

I was also disappointed a well as annoyed. I was properly chuffed to see a big pic of a 2cv on a magazine cover – then felt totally let down by the incompetent writing.

Sad, very sad - it could have been really good. But it wasn't.

I've had no problem with wet paper bags myself.

Those really thick ones can sometimes cause an issue as its like trying to escape the pull of a 'black hole'

Funny, I never put my cars in paper bags. Don't they get soggy when it rains?

So what do you want Sam? If the write up was a 110% glowing report on the virtues of owning a 2cv, then everybody will want one and the prices will go through the roof due to supply and demand. By rubbishing the car, boring people won't want one, so prices will remain rock bottom/banger car. That will please everybody on this forum

I would be tempted to put those exact sentiments to the editor Sam, it sounds like the article was a missed opportunity. If they are taking 2cv's seriously enough to price them above many conventional classic vehicles perhaps it's time to drop the 'figure of fun' attitude too?

The £600 - £800 for a basket case bit makes me cringe, as I gave two pretty good cars away not long ago for free, and then went and sold a rebuilt one for £750 last year.

Ten grand for a ripple also means that I'll never own one <sniffle>, and six to eight for a good - 'un is probably dealer asking price, a bit top heavy too I reckon.

If we interpret "basket case" as "shed with a bit of MOT", then it's about right.



Next time you're going to do that, give me a shout, please... I'll have as many "rebuilt" 2cvs as you can knock out for that price!

It was a Bamboo, new floors, brakes, and more besides, very tidy and a lovely runner too, so I'm still not feeling any better.
